Title: Emigration to Australia
Post by: chalkeydave on Monday 28 September 20 15:14 BST (UK)
Good Afternoon one and all,

We are trying to find the whereabouts of a Mr Frank Richard Smith who was born in Nottingham in 1910.
Between 1955 and 1957 he and his wife Lillian ( Lily ) emigrated to Australia from Southampton onboard the SS New Australia.
I have searched several lists but to no avail.
Anybody help please 🙏

What about looking for his wife and then follow on from there, Frank, was he Frank or Francis?

I've searched on the Australian records for Immigration into their country for both names and there is no record from 1950 to 1960 of them arriving by ship or plane. I know they Australians are a stickler for their records being accurate, are you sure of the destination, ship and dates and I've searched those records for my own relatives and found them straight away. Both ship and air arrivals are all recorded and you can see the scanned arrival cards. There are also no records relating to them from the Immigration and Naturalization Records from 1950 to 1970, sorry.

The Inbound passenger list for the New Australia arriving Fremantle, Western Australia  Feb 1955 includes a Mr Frank SMITH.

The digitised passenger lists are readily and freely available, no need to register, no subs required, online at the National Archives of Australia website, naa.gov.au

I'm not sure whether chalkeydave is still interested in this query, but as far as I can see, Frank and Lily first appear in Australia on the NSW electoral roll in 1977.

They are in the suburb of St Ives, Bradfield Sydney and neither has an occupation.
