Hi,
I am looking for any help I can get re my g-g-grandmother, Martha Sloan, from Lochguille, Co Antrim. She and her parents, William Sloan and Janet Coleman, emigrated to Dunbar, Scotland, with her many siblings. Does anyone have her in their tree or know anything to help? It is a real brick wall at the moment.
Thanks,
Stuart

Hi
Who did she marry & where? There is a Martha Sloan marriage in 1852 Dunbar to Robert Marr. 1861 census shows her b Ireland 1824

The 1803 agricultural census (which is on Bill McAfee’s site) lists just 1 Sloan household in Loughguile parish. That was occupied by Widow Sloan who lived in Kingarve (Kingarriff). Possibly a relation.

You haven’t said what denomination the Sloan family was but none of the 3 main denominations has any records for the early 1800s save for the Church of Ireland (Episcopalian) which has baptisms for 1802 – 1814. So there‘s probably no record of Martha’s baptism if she was born in Loughguile around 1820-1824.
No Coleman households in Loughguile in 1803.
Griffiths Valuation for 1861 lists 1 Sloan household in Loughguile, headed by a John Sloan. He lived in Castlequarter though he also had land nearby in Lavin Lower & Ballyveely Upper. Sloan does not appear to have been a common name in Loughguile.
