What religion were your gt gt grandparents? Where in Kildare did they live - parish and townland?
What age were they from the 1891,1901 and 1911 censuses?

The younger children’s birth registrations, Keighley, with mother’s maiden name of Campbell
1882 James McCoy
1884 Elizabeth McCay
1886 Margaret McKay
1889 Thomas McKie
In 1891 3534/180
Ellen, married, and the children are McKie.
In 1881, Thomas was a Carter.
Do you have his occupation on the younger children’s birth certificates?
-
On all other census records Ellen McCoy /Mckie is listed as Married but no Thomas there
Marriage for their Daughter Mary Ellon McCoy 1903 says father's occupation miner
Arm records for son James lists his next of kin as his mother Mrs Ellen McCoy
There is a prison record for a Thomas McCoy age 30 Bradford ..Labourer Roman Catholic Co Down
Date 2/6/1879 Wakefield Prison West Yorkshire sentenced for neglect to family
Might be a possibility

Might it be that Thomas was the father of the children before 1881 but not the children after.
Do you have birth certificates for the later children?
-
There was a child, Joseph MCoy Born and died 1894. The birth is showing mother’s name as Campbell.
I can see Ellen in 1901 4079/142/35
Is she to be seen in 1911? When did she die? Was she described as married or a widow on her death?
-
1911 transcribed as Mcellan McCoy age 69 married 9 children born 6 living 3 children dead ..viewing the record has her
Mrs Ellen McCoy
Piece 26109

Possible Records:
1901
Thomas McCoy 67 yrs Bradford - conviction for drunkenness
1903 as above but 65 yrs
1903 As above but Otley
1904 - Begging
The ages vary slightly in above and the places are the courts I think rather than residence.
1911 census
Thomas McCoy here but he is described as single.

There is a death in Skipton in 1922 for Thomas McCoy 82 yrs.

Hi, I believe that the Thomas McCoy who married Ellen Kennedy Campbell in 1872, is a brother of my great grandfather John McCoy who was born in Newry on January 22nd 1856. I would be very interested in sharing notes on this family.
Many thanks.
