Title: Kilmagar
Post by: brecor on Thursday 25 August 05 17:16 BST (UK)
Hi

i am trying to gather information on the Byrne family that lived in the townsland of Kilmagar during the 18th and 19th centuries.  The problem is that the Griffiths Valuation lists Kilmagar in both the civil parishes of Clara and Kilderry. James Byrne is also listed in both!

As far as i can make out, Clara is in the RC parish of Clara, and Kilderry is in the RC parish of St Johns, Kilkenny. So where do i look?

Also, it seems that although parish records have survived for Clara, they have not been microfilmed. Has anybody out there managed to view the originals in parish custody?

Any info on the Byrnes would be great too!

Thanks

I too want to get hold of the Parish records but I have some information. Sir Gregory Byrne of Timogue had a son called Charles Byrne via his 2nd marriage to Alice Fleming. Charles seems to have settled initially at Kilmacar where he married Margaret Bermingham and had a number of children including John of Boleybeg, Dudley Colclough Byrne, Gregory who died in 1742 and James who died in 1774 as well as daughters Margaret, Alice, Frances and Mary Ann.

Regards
Geoff
