I was working my way through some entries on The Keep and came across a record that noted "Joseph Newington of Ticehurst, gent; a bastard son of Mary Fever of Ticehurst, widow" dated 25 Jul 1747 at https://www.thekeep.info/collections/getrecord/GB179_PAR492_34_3_9
I have been searching for the child and came across the only one that 'fits' however the baptism occurs some 4 years earlier on 19 Jun 1743 and child is William FEVER. Is it usual for a Bastardy bond to take that long to be resolved?

That is the baptism suggested in Burchall's Transcriptions.
1747 Jul 25 Bond of Joseph NEWINGTON, gent, tp for a bastard son on Mary FEVER, widow, tp
(Par.492/34/3/9) [Joseph NEWINGTON married 1 Dec 1729 at Ticehurst, Mary TOMPSETT;
Thomas FEVER married 10 Dec 1730 at Lamberhurst, Mary TYHURST].
William base born son of Widow FEVER baptised 19 June 1743.
Maybe the fact he was a gent held some sway?

Good idea swebby,
Nonetheless it does all seem to 'fit' irrespective of the record date.
