Good morning,
I am trying to trace Edna Harrison bn 1902 in Loftus, Yorks.
Her parent's were Henry and Jane Harrison nee Cooper
Edna's mother Jane died in 1904 after giving birth to a son.
Then i found Edna in 1911 staying with her grandparents Robert and Jane Cooper at 29, Barwick st, Scarborough
But nothing after that.
Would like some help to find her plz
Kind Regards
Bullamore.

Might she have been adopted if her father remarried?

Are you sure Edna's mother's name is Jane Cooper and not Ruth Cooper. I can find a marriage for a Henry Harrison and Ruth Cooper in Scarborough registration district 1901 and a death for a Ruth Cooper 1904 Guisboro reg dist which includes Loftus.
-
Possible remarriage for Henry
Marriages March 1/4 1911
Henry Harrison to Joanna Howard Guisbro 9d 694
So you should be able to find them together in the 1911 census as it wasn't taken until the 2nd of April
-
Yes they are there with Joanna's parents and a son Reginald age 7 but no other children with them. Still in Loftus
Reginald is Joanna's son from a previous relationship (not a marriage)
here's Joanna is 1901 with her parents
Piece 4564 Folio 84 Page 18
Loftus Guisborough
Alfred Howard 50 Sexton at church born Maidstone Kent
Johannah Howard 48 born Loftus
Johannah Howard 23, single, born Loftus

Edna is in 6 trees on Ancestry. I think they all have her mother as Ruth. None of them (of the public ones, there is one private one) have any information after 1911.
Have you checked for deaths in the region?
Have you got her exact date of birth, just to see if there is an obvious candidate in 1939?

There are 2 baptisms in Loftus
Edna 25/06/1902
Reginald Alexander Cooper 10/081904 , 3 days after his mother was buried, she aged 25
Ruth was shown as "dec" on Reginald's baptism
Reginald Alexander Cooper stayed with father and he remarried again to Joanna

Possible death for Joanna
wife of Henry Harrison (doesn't say dec)
10/11/1942
49 Dalston Road Carlisle
Probate to Richard Alexander Cooper Harrison and Thomas Jones
£222 6s 3p
Louisa Maud
-
Possible death for grandfather
Robert Cooper
29/07/1911
of 29 Barwick Street
probate to Jane Cooper amounting to £797
I wonder if because of Edna's grandfather dying whilst she was so young did she get put up for adoption, have you got her date of birth , an exact D of B would help you on 1939
So, at the moment I am no further into finding Edna

"Reginald is Joanna's son from a previous relationship (not a marriage) ??"
Reginald Alexander Cooper Harrison Reg'd 1904 Ref 9d 505
Mother's maiden name Cooper, baptised with Cooper as a Christian name, born after marriage between Henry Harrison and Ruth Cooper

How are we doing Bullamore?

Bullamore, please let us know if we are on the right lines, more information if you have it would be helpful, but I can see no way forward with info we have so far

Thank you to you all.
The information you all have given is so far, correct
Thank you
Bullamore.

Have you got her exact date of birth, just to see if there is an obvious candidate in 1939?
Are you going to get her birth certificate to help in finding her?
-
Perhaps she gave herself a middle name? :-\
A marriage
March 1926 Scarborough 9d 592
Harrison, Edna M. - spouse Sawdon
Sawdon, Frederick - spouse Harrison
Free index to 1939 has
Edna M Sawdon, born 1902
living with Frederick Sawdon and 4 more people, 1 closed
at 41 Saint Pauls Terrace, York C.B., Yorkshire (West Riding)
First born after that marriage?
Dec 1927 Wetherby 9a 176
Sawdon, Douglas
mother Harrison
Death
October 1992, York
Edna May Sawdon
d-o-b 14 June 1902
That would have to be a very fast birth registration!
In that sub-district in Guisborough, June qtr 1902, there were 91 birth registrations, and Edna was the 76th.

Baptism 24/06/1902, d of b might fit Jon

Yes, LM, you are quite right! There's hope yet!
I think there must have been a lot of Edna Mays around, it sounds like a popular combination of names, but the only real Edna May Harrison option on FreeBMD is June 1903 Birkenhead.
Our Edna in Scarborough may be more likely perhaps.

Well that idea seems to have gone down like a lead balloon with Bullamore.

The Sawdon family is in a tree on Ancestry. Unfortunately it does not have parents for Edna. The tree owner was last active within the last week so you could try and contact them.
Which member of the Harrison family are you related to?
