Hi
I have an ancestor Robert Rankin born about 1832 in High Temple Locks, New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland I have this information from his marriage certificate to Hannah Wingate on 3rd February 1960 in Church of Scotland Mary Hill Parish, Wyndford, Maryhill, Glasglow, Scotland.
He immigrated to Australia and died 21 August 1902 in Chatsworth Island, NSW, Australia. It says on his death certificate (the informant wasnt a relative) that he was born Cotbridge, near Glasglow Scotland.
My question is can you pinpoint the location of High Temple Locks, New Kilpatrick etc as using google maps I'm unable to find it.
Thanks!

Bottom right in the coloured area you will see Knightswood just above you will see Temple on the canal this where the temple locks were.

Just after Robert & Hannah married, there is:
1861 census
Gartnaval Pit, Govan, Glasgow, Lanarkshire.
Robert Rankins, 26, Contractor, Coal Pit, born Old Monkland
Hannah, 25, Wife, b Eastwood, Renfrewshire
Elizabeth F, 1, dau, b Govan, Glasgow
He was born at Coatbridge, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, east of Glasgow.. I saw somewhere that his father was James, mother Jane. As I think you know, he was buried at McClean Cemetery, Chatsworth Island. His birth seems to be 1835. ...On this census, the surname is given as Rankins when it should be Rankin. I believe I saw two earlier census returns for Robert, 1841 and 1851. You probably have them already.
