Title: Birch
Post by: Su on Thursday 23 July 20 19:23 BST (UK)
Hi, Could anyone tell me where births from 1880-1886 Penal/Harrogate would be registered?  I've searched YorkshireBMD for 5 children of the same family and none of them are on that site.
There names are
1880 Minnie Birch
1881 Edith M Birch
1883 Jane Birch      Don't know if these two were twins, or +/- a year between
1883 Ernest A Birch
1886 Washington Birch - Washington is the one I'm mainly interested in.  I have Huddersfield Baptism record transcription which says Birth date 30th October 1886 Baptism date 30th October 1886 St.Thomas Anglican Bradley Yorkshire (West Riding) his mother was Elizabeth Whincup and his father Abel Swan Birch.

You probably have but for the record the baptisms for Ernest Abel, Minnie, Frank Wilfred, Enid & Jane Annie can be found on Anc*. Let me know if you require full details.

John

Washington's birth a mystery apart from transcription.

Hi John so sorry I've taken this long to reply my keyboard froze on me and after crawling under my desk I eventually switched the comp off then on.
Anyway
Thank you so much for this information. Yes I have a very big file on the Bearpark/Birches dating back to early 1800s.  Washington Birch is my sis-in-law's grandfather, and I could never get a birth cert for him.  I've got his baptism, marriage and death.
Am I not able to get actual Birth Certs on any of the children?  Or are they in a Parish Book? Would I have to applu to the GRO for them?  I can't understand why they aren't on the Yorkshire BMD site. Washington would be a mystery wouldn't he?
It's very kind of you to go to all this trouble.
Kind regards
Su

Hi Su, all the children's birth's that I listed are available from the  gro web site. They do cost I think £11.50 each. You can also get a pdf copy that is cheaper.

Thank you John, all except Washington LOL. Have you any idea why they weren't on YorkshireBMD?
Does that mean they haven't been transcribed yet do you think?
Why is it always the one name you want that is an awkward so-in-so LOL
Regards
Su

Su, I'm not sure as to whether or not they have not been transcribed, other rc's may have a better knowledge. Like you I have baptisms but no births--most frustrating.

Thank you anyway John I'm very grateful for your help, it was very kind of you to go to the trouble. I'm a bit rusty not having done any research for about 5 years, after 20 years of it!!  My niece brought it up tonight, she's finally taking an interest, well her daughter is, so I'm pleased about that.
Stay safe in these very strange times won't you.
Kind regards
Su

Su,

None of the Knaresborough birth registrations have been transcribed yet for the Yorkshire BMD.

Thank you John. I spoke to a friend this morning about Yorkshire BMD and she said the same as you, lots of people looked on YorkshireBMD without results, now we know why.
Kind regards

Hi John
Just to say that Washington Birch was born prematurely and was baptised the same day
and at the same time as 5 other babies at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Bradley, West Yorkshire. His birth was never registered and consequently there is no birth certificate.
This has been confirmed by someone who has been researching Alice Flatman (wife of Washington Birch) who went to the church and looked through the records.
So I can confidently put that one to bed.
Thank you again for your kind help in this matter
Regards
Su

Hi Su, thanks for letting me know and all others that read your post the outcome. It's very pleasing to have helped as far as I could but more so with you replying, many others just do not bother.

Keep safe

John
