Title: Barnes family Rippingale
Post by: Bedells on Monday 20 July 20 19:56 BST (UK)
Hi,

I have a brick wall:

Thomas Barnes (1754 - 1817) married Sarah Fardell (1759 - ) on 10/07/1783

I'd like to go back further than Thomas but come up with two possible baptisms in a 20 mile radius of Rippingale (nothing appears before that - I'm using FindMyPast).

Branston, Leicestershire
Sleaford, Lincolnshire

Does anyone have any connections to these?

Thanks

I'm leaning towards Sleaford as the father on the baptism is a William Barnes and Thomas & Sarah's first son was named William

All this will need checking out of course, but there is a tree on Family Search that has Thomas Barnes born Bilsby, Lincs. to William Barnes (1730-1800) and Bridget Parker (1736-1769) They were married 13/5/1755 Edenham Lincs. On FreeREG Sarah Fadell baptised 19/12/1758 at Edenham Lincs. Father James, Mother Susannah.
Regards.

Some wills may provide the answer and you can see the index here - http://www.wellowgate.co.uk/wills/LCC1.pdf

It is in two sections - 1701-1750 and 1751-1800

Unfortunately, There is only one Barnes in the right area - Ann Barnes of Grimsthorpe in the parish of Edenham 1739
Also one not too far away - William Barnes in Bourne in 1800, although I can't find a burial.
As paco mentioned, various trees on Ancestry have the death of William, the father of Thomas, as 1800 in Sleaford, but I can't see a burial there either. The father of Thomas?

However, there are two Sandall wills in Rippingale - Robert in 1761 and Isaac in 1781.
Also some Barnes in Leasingham and Rauceby, both near Sleaford

They are held at Lincolnshire Archives - https://www.lincstothepast.com/exhibitions/archives/family-history-%E2%80%93-a-guide/catalogues-of-original-documents-held-at-lincolnshire-archives/138.article

Ordering can take a while under normal circumstances and may be longer now.
