Hello all, I am trying to find the connection between 2 Ackerly/Ackerley families that both had descendants that found their way to Australia (not as convicts :D). The first is John Ackerly born about 1757 at Mabe, Cornwall. The second is Edward Ackerly born about 1749 also at Mabe. John married Elizabeth Geach and Edward married 1. Mary Nicholas 2. Margaret Kestle. John and Elizabeth had 14 children and Edward and Mary had at least 6 children and Edward and Margaret had one known child.
Both John and Edward had an Elizabeth, Martha, Mary, Digory/Diggory, William and Jenefer. John's son William brought his family to Tasmania then Victoria. And Edward's son Edward Jnr brought his family to Victoria. William lived in Nth East Vic. and Edward in Western Victoria. The connection between John and Edward Sen. seems almost certain, but the connection is too early to be traced through the English Census'. I am not seeking details of their family members after the connection, but I hope someone can reveal, through Parish Records or some such other resource, how they were connected. Fingers crossed,
-Aussie Bob

JOHN ACHERLY
Baptism 9 Jan 1757
Parish Mabe
Father Digory Acherly
Mother Elizabeth
-
marriage 5 Jan 1744/5 in Mabe for Degory Ackerly & Elizabeth Medlin
So they could be the parents of Edward as well, but not finding the baptism at the moment.

there's a gap in the parish registers of Mabe between 1742 & 1762

The marriage is from the BTs.

Thanks Rosie99 and Osprey, I had 1757 as John's birth year but not the baptism. I also had Digory and Elizabeth as his parents but not Elizabeth's surname. so thanks again. A shame about the gap in parish records, I had similar trouble with Gloucestershire records where a Parish Minister failed to record BDM'S for a period of time. It is always quite a few bricks in that Genie Wall when that happens. regards,
Bob

Wills and Admons proved through the Bishop of Exeter
Digory Ackerly 1785 St Mave A 1785 possibly admin only and no will
Wills and Admons proved through the Consistory Court of the Bishop of Exeter
Richard Ackerly 1771 of Budock W 1771
Even though Richard doesn't appear in your line his will could give relationships to other Ackerly families

Hi amondg, Is this will online?
-
No it was from an index on ancestry.
Try Cornwall Records Office.

Thanks for that....Bob

Cornwall Records Office is now called Kresen Kernow.

Thanks Fizzy, I will keep that in mind but am not that involved with this family to worry too much about it.. I just thought some local tree or knowledge may have already connected these 2 lines.
As usual, you have all been very helpful and I appreciate it greatly.
Cheers, Bob

wills and admons that are held at Kresen Kernow are available via FamilySearch, but very few from the parish of Mabe. The ones that are have been indexed by the opc site, doesn't include Digory's

If the admons aren't at Kresen Kernow, they may be at the archives in Exeter.

Thanks for that. I have explored family search some time back but will have another look when I get the chance.
