Title: Photo date assistance - Medlicott Family
Post by: nsharp1983 on Friday 17 July 20 15:00 BST (UK)
Could I please ask for some assistance in dating the attached photo? It was taken in Liverpool, England and I believe the young girl in the photo might be my great grandmother Elizabeth Medlicott. Possibly the other people in the photo are her brothers William and Joseph Medlicott and their mother Elizabeth Medlicot (nee Kearns). Thank you.

It's Edwardian.

Thanks Jim. Do you think it could be as late as 1915? Reason I ask is that I think the young girl child is my great grandmother however she was born in Sept 1912. The young girl looks around 3 in this photo.

There's a possibility it's 1915 but that would be the top end of the date range.

When I saw it, I though it was one of those photos of wife and children before going to war (WW1), so 1914-15. The lady's clothes do look Edwardian though.

I think it is a few years earlier 1905-10.

Clothing does look Edwardian, a-l,  but the OP thinks the little girl was born 1912.

Many of these mother and children pics were taken around 1914-5 for the husband/father to take with him to the front   :-\

It looks like the little girl is wearing a Coral necklace, the Victorians believed that it was protective and health giving. Instinctively, I thought Edwardian, photos sometimes throw us off track.

If it is  the little girl b. 1912, then her mother must be wearing clothes of the earlier period. It is strange that there is no husband in the photo so it, perhaps, suggests a photograph taken for him to have.

Did her husband serve as a Stoker in the Royal Navy  in WW1?

I've found the following birth regs for the children :

William Sept Q, 1904
Joseph March Q, 1909
John  March Q, 1911  - died Sept Q 1911
Elizabeth  Dec Q 1912
Jessie Sept Q, 1917
Christina March Q, 1920

If John died in 1911, then this photo could possibly be the two older boys and Elizabeth
