Title: Yoveish/Wallace
Post by: Vella on Sunday 12 July 20 11:38 BST (UK)
Looking for information about the Yoveish later Wallace family who lived in Deptford in the 1939 census. Edward Yoveish was my Godfather.

What information are you after so we don't spend time looking for what you already have.

Could you please post the information from the 1939 register.   Do not post any information on anyone who is possibly still living.

I see there was a thread in 2007 in which the name of Konstantin Yoveish/ Constant  Wallace is mentioned. Perhaps it can be linked.

I am writing a memoir of my late father who I believe met Edward Yoevish whilst in the Liverpool Scottish regiment posted in Gibraltar in about 1946.
I do not know if my Godfather is still alive, if he is he would be well over 90 years old.
The 1939 register shows a family with the name Constant (master tailor) , wife Mary and son Constant (Tailor) and a younger child who I presume may be Edward.
I would like to find out which country he was born in and whether they escaped the Nazis before WW2.

Thankyou everyone. I have now found an Army record for Konstant Yoveish for WW1 on Ancestry which fits.

Many thanks

There is a probate for Mary Wallace - of St Anthonys Nursing Home, St Leonards on Sea died 27 August 1989.  If this is her it may give information on Edward.

Probate documents are currently £1.50

Thank you so much Rosie99. That must be Edward's mother and her husband Konstantin but I will investigate further.

I wonder who the blacked out entry is in 1939.  If it is Edward then he may still be living but could it be a daughter as there is a marriage that could fit in the late 1940's

I do wonder too Rosie99 if it is Edward. My father was born in 1927 and I always presumed he and my Godfather were about the same age. if it is Edward on the 1939 register and he was born around 1930 there was quite an age gap between him and Constant Joseph.

Freebmd only brings up one record for that surname, the 1940's marriage who is probably still alive.

I wonder if Mary's probate would mention her children

Well I've drawn a blank on the Gov.Uk Wills online search so I think I will get some fresh air and come back to it another day! Many thanks for your time and efforts Rosei99 and everyone else.

You need to download the will to get info.  The details on the probate entry are minimal

After you pay etc it then takes a few days before the will is available to download.  You will get an email notification

I have now ordered the Will for Mary Wallace.
Many thanks to you Rosie99 and everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

The England Registers show Constant Joseph jnr and Edward living in the Deptford area but not for the same years. I've not come across a death notice for Edward yet but will keep searching.

I have now also found via Ancestry and typing in Edward Wallace, my Godfather travelling to Africa in 1952 as he was involved in a Locust survey and this fits in with what I remember my father used to talk about. The jig-saw is coming along!

The entry for the Locust Survey trip in July 1952 gives his age as 28 (transcript has 22) and address as 83 Lewisham Way, SE14

- Makes his year of birth c 1924.  Constant is at that address on street directories

Yes that's right and I now have found on Ancestry  a Death notice for an Edward George Wallace in Kent in 2006.
More investigation needed!

There was an Edward G Wallace living in Cranbrook Kent prior to the time of that death.

Yes I spotted that. Hawkhurst/Cranbrook is north of Hastings so that would fit. I might well send off for Edward's Will as well but I'll wait to see Mary's first.

Just another thank-you to everyone who helped point me in the right direction in my search for my Godfather. I have now received both his and Mary Wallace's Wills which confirm they are mother and son!
