Hello All,
I am trying to find a marriage between Patrick Carney (1821 Ireland) and Alice Collins (1835 Ireland), sometime before 1854. I am assuming it will be in the Whitechapel area, as their eldest children were born there. I am also assuming that they were RC.
Any help would be gladly appreciated as I am new to London records and have no idea where to start. I have not been able to find anything on ancestry.
Cheers

Where do you have this family on census
-
Hello Rosie99,
The family moves to Sunbury on Thames approx 1871, I have not got any censuses before that.
I say Whitechapel area as I have their children's birth certificates and between 1854 and 1861 their children were born in the Whitechapel area.
Cheers

They could have married in Ireland before coming across, or just eloped.
Any idea when they left Ireland?
Sorry not finding the 1871 census you mention - can you post some details please?
-
Are these 2 of the children?
Ellen born Dec 1854
John born Dec 1856
both Whitechapel
couldn't find any others up to 1864

Patrick Carney (1821 Ireland) and Alice Collins (1835 Ireland),
Wife should be Ellen perhaps?
-
Hi Milliepede,
Sorry my bad, I don't know where I got Alice from!! Stuck in my head for some reason. Yes that is correct its Ellen not Alice. I should have checked before posting.

See if this one matches the 1871 you refer to
Patrick Carney 46
Ellen 36
Ellen 16
John 14
Bridget 10
Patrick 7
James 4
That leads back to an Ellen Collins from Cork who is a visitor age 16 on the 1851 census Stepney

Hi Milliepede,
Yes that matches the 1871 census I have for the family.

There's an Ellen Collins marriage in Stepney Sep 1854 but I can't see who the groom is as 3 brides and only 2 grooms listed.
That would fit before the birth of first child and she was in Stepney in 1851.
-
Thank you Milliepede, I will have a look at the records.
Cheers

Wife should be Ellen Collins now Biggles50
-
FindMyPast has that Stepney marriage as
ELLEN COLLINS married one of these people
Thomas Roycroft, Edward Doyle
And I think it’s Edward.

1871 Patrick’s says born Waterford & Ellen born Cork
But in 1851 there is a 24 year old Patrick born Cork visitor in the Hamlet of Ratcliff.
I wonder if in 1861 he is the P.C. In Clerkenwell gaol. bricklayers labourer. Born Ireland. Although says he is unmarried,
