His cap badge is neither E Yorkshire or 2/3 Ghurka Rifles.  That part I am certain about.  However, the RE Kiddle cited does seem to be Richard Edgar Kiddle commissioned in May 1940 into the E Yorks (London Gazette 28 May 1940) and later with 2 GR - so perhaps wearing a cap badge from previous service?

Do you have any other photos for comparison?

Thanks Max.  Sadly no other photos of him in uniform, only him as a child.  Does the cap badge signify the regiment or is it too blurred?

I haven't been able to identify the cap badge but in one sense it doesn't really matter.  The photo is certainly the right era and is army.  But records post 1920 are still with the Ministry of Defence so whatever regiment he was,  to know about your Richard Edgar Kiddle's service you would have to apply for his service record which will still be held by the Ministry of Defence.  The application doesn't require you to know what his regiment was or his service number.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for all input

I have since discovered that this is not Richard E Kiddle it is in fact another family member.

Its RAC in a wreath - Royal Armoured Corps first pattern badge so early war c.1941.

He may be in training before being posted to a regiment with it's own badge although there were RAC badged regiments.
