Does anyone have access to the original images of the Magdalen Laver baptisms?
We have been looking for a baptism for John Hoy in Magdalen Laver around 1812. We have looked on www.familysearch.org, but there is a gap in the images between 1808-1812 when we believe John Hoy was baptised.
He later went to marry Mary Guy. There is one baptism which comes up in 1813 for a John Hoy, but this is mis-transcribed and is actually for a John Aley (with parents David and Sarah), who had other children around that time.
We believe John's parents are John and Mary Hoy, nee Houchin who were married at Magdalen Laver 6/3/1812. It is just possible that John could be baptised as Houchin, not Hoy, if he was born before the marriage.
Many thanks,
Sarah

ERO Parish registers.
There is no John Hoy or Houchin baptized 1812 plus or minus 2 years.

Thank you so much for looking. That is very helpful. The mystery continues!

Looking at the census for 1851 and 1861 do you believe the John and Mary Hoy who are 60 in 1851 to be the parents?
If so then Mary is not sure where she was born listing Hatfield and then Matching, It's often the case the mother will have her first child near her own mother so try Matching or Hatfield, she doesn't which one though.
John always says he was born Nettswell.

Very many thanks for your suggestion. It makes perfect sense but we haven't had any luck with either Matching or Hatfield! Or anywhere else in Essex!!

Just had a search in Ancestry's Essex Parish Register Index 1792 to 1833, an Essex wide search, no John Hoy found at Magdalen Laver, Hatfield, Matching or Netteswell.
The only John Hoy in that period with parents John & Mary was baptised 25 ? 1797 at Elmdon, Essex, the month was not given the date shown as 25/1792, that date unfortunately doesn't fit your requirements.
I also checked for a John Houchin with parents John and Mary and again there was only one in that period, he was baptised 5 Aug 1800 at Terling.
There were also quite a few children named John How and Hey, even those did not fit.
There were the following two, close to the period you are looking at but not with parents John and Mary.
John son of James and Elizabeth Hoy baptised 2 Jun 1816 at Steeple Bumpstead.
John son of Joseph and Mary Hoy baptised 29 Mar 1818 at Great Waltham.
Unfortunately not the parents you want nor in the right area.

Thank you very much for going to all that trouble to look. I think we have probably gone as far as we can for now on the Hoy side. We started having a look at the Houchins and I suspect they will be equally problematic! They have used the same names over and over again! Thanks again.
