Hi Dave , I know that one , My Great grandad John Starkey died on 14 November 1926,
It's common knowledge to the Starkey family in Worcester and other family's members in England.
John Starkey born 1954 came to England in the late Nineteen Century.
And today several Starkey family have been given a couple of names that might be him. Johannes Jacob Jacob Sterken and Johann Sengstake. or I wonder there's a death certificate in Germany for Johannes Sterken
Ancestry don't have his Johannes Jacob Sterken death only his birth . Other family's can only guess !.

Hi,
I think that should be Bedburdyck and his birth year should be 1854.
Even so, I haven't found him yet. Lots of Sterkens in the Neuss area, but no Johann in that year.
I'll keep looking...
Best regards,
Karen

Thank you Karen. l did misspell the word. Bedburdyck.
It's a hard nut to crack, John Starkey.... Real name we can guess at the moment. But we have no records of his true Birth date only year 1854. We all know he was born in Hannover in Germany and we know his death in Worcester, England 24 November 1926. l thought finding the death day, month or year of Johann Jacob Sterken or Johann Sengtake would help to narrow it down!

Hi Kevin,
Was he definitely born in (the city of) Hannover? Because that's a long way from Bedburdyck.
The problem with older German records is that the authoritive districts sometimes covered huge areas. It often happens that you find a record which says Hannover and then you find out that the person was born maybe a hundred kilometres from Hannover city and the records are held by the church of a little town somewhere in the backwoods.
Preussen is also a term which needs to be handled carefully - a couple of hundred years ago, Preussen covered a vast chunk of Germany.
What is important in the data which you quoted is the town of Bedburdyck. That really narrows it down.
Where do you have the info from that he was born in Hannover, if I may ask?
Best regards,
Karen

On John Starkey Worcester Census, England 1901 it said British subject from Hannover, Germany.
On the Worcester census 1911 it said Germany... town unknown ! B.S
Yet he was German by blood. his parents didn't want him in the prussian Army. So his Auntie took him out of the Country.
