Your cousin can apply for his father's service records. He only needs to supply basic information such as full name, date and place of birth, and provide a copy of death certificate (presuming his father is deceased?).
He does not need to know service number or anything about his service.
All the information you need and application forms are here:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records
Cost is £30, but worth the investment.
Good luck.

You're welcome.
There can be a bit of a wait for service records so you might need to be patient. It took nearly a year for some I ordered to arrive - but I have read that for others it only took a couple of months. Covid19 may have caused delays of course.
I forgot to mention that the forms you need to fill in I think do ask for a service number, so I presume you could just write "unknown" in that space. :)

The forms you actually fill in say: Date of Birth OR Service Number.
Both are even better, but one or the other will do.

Good to know - it's been a while since I filled one in. :)
