Redmond Condon is a common name from Mitchelstown.
My ancestor was one of them, and there was another who migrated to NZ around the same era. Perhaps cousins.
My Redmond married Elizabeth Anne Kelly but I don't know if they migrated to Australia, or if their son John came without them.
John was born in Mitchelstown in 1861. He died in Victoria Australia, 1938. He was a dairyman.
I'd love to find out more about his Irish family, and hope one day to come and meet some relatives in Ireland.

Redmond Condon and Elizabeth Kelly were my great great grandparents. Their daughter Mary migrated to Australia with her sister in the 1880s. She met her husband to be Daniel Mahoney on the trip and out and reconnected accidentally in a park in Adelaide. Later they moved to Melbourne and ran a grocery shop in Carlton. They had many children…I think 10 survived, my grandmother being the second youngest.
We were always told that Elizabeth knew there was not much future for them in Ireland so she sent the kids off all round the world. She cut a lock of hair from each as they left and told them she would go to the bottom of the garden each night to pray for them and they would know she was thinking of them. A relative returned for a visit in the thirties and the box of hair was still on the mantlepiece.

Hello to you all
I am also an Australian and very interested in the Condon's of Mitchelstown that moved to Victoria.... but also interested in the Kelly family. Two separate families in my case..... or three
CARLINA, your Condon's from Mitchelstown, I think I know some of the family in Victoria, but its a 'story'. I would love to chat about them with you and hope you are still active here... or on Facebook (easier). There are Dwyers in Victoria, whose parents are Condon and Dwyer. The adult children moved to Australia in the 1840s and 1850s mainly.... so the children were born 1814- about 1825.... maybe longer....
The Dwyers were in Shronell, County Tipperary, which isn't far from Mitchelstown County Cork. I can see the Dwyer and Condons on land records in the 1820s-1840s. I can also see Fanny Condon in Brigown Mitchelstown in the 1840s on a tithe record from memory. By now, she would be at least 50, her children and grandchildren have left Ireland and living in Australia. The main names that keep repeating are Mary, Margaret, Jeremiah (Darby), William, Patrick, John and Matthew.
There are definitely Condons in the same locations in Victoria as the ones from the above Condon, so I feel there is a good chance they are related, possibly cousins. I keep seeing their names pop up, but because most of the family are Dwyer, there may not be the obvious connections for others to see.
I know the names Ryan, Glasheen, Gleeson, Moore, Dwyer, Condon, Sullivan, Curtin.... are in the tree a lot. It seems the Dwyer family came to Victoria, but so did a lot of their friends.... which I know happened for a lot of our Irish ancestors, they moved and helped each other. For THIS family, they have ties to a Kelly family too, who was born around Athlone 1805.... but the connection was in Australia mid 1800s.
With religion, I believe the Dwyers here were not RC.....
JENDYNAN
I am also interested in your Elizabeth Kelly... would love to know where she is from in Ireland and who the family is. I am a Kelly by birth (but born in Australia). My Kellys were apparently from County Longford and mentioned as farmers. The surnames in my family are Fox, Keane, Hamilton, Mahon, McCormack and Flynn.... and locations are mainly Longford, Westmeath, Offaly and possibly Galway, Roscommon then a little further south into Kerry and Limerick (struggling to find some). Mine are recorded as Roman Catholic on the records we have so far. Mine moved to Western Australia, but there are some in New South Wales too...
But there is also the Dwyer family in Victoria who have ties to a Kelly family (who moved to New South Wales) were from around Athlone, I believe he is not RC... hope we can find connections for some families.
I would love to chat with anyone about the Condons and Kellys... or any families/locations mentioned. Feel free to reach out, I would love to put you in touch with the Dwyer, Condon and Kellys...
Thanks, hope to hear from you soon xx

Update about out Redmond Condon.
This name is definitely recurring in my family tree, however I checked my Australian records and my grandfather's grandfather was James, not Redmond.
He did have a son and grandson called Redmond.
To find out how my John Condon, son of James and Elizabeth (Kelly), ended up in Victoria Australia, I need to find James and Elizabeth Kelly. I don't know if they remained in Ireland or migrated to Australia.
There is a good chance they were dairy farmers because John Condon ran his own dairy farm in Carlton Victoria, Australia. I'm sure this was from around Mitchelstown.
John met and married his wife in Australia. Bridget McMahon.

With the name Redmond.... I have seen a document about this specific Redmond Condon and it suggests that his name was Edmund... but the parish register definitely looks like Redmond. I wonder if the family used the name Edmund but added an R to differentiate him from the other Edmunds? I know i have seen the name Edmund recorded as John in my family which is confusing. Redmond may not have been the eldest son.... which is why his father is known to you as James. Some trees have the father as William but that doesnt seem to fit the names of Redmonds children..... or his age at death.
Regarding his immigration. Two thoughts... one is that if he travelled alone, he would need to be around 18 years old... so the immigration would be 1882-1888 (1882 he is 18 and 1888 he marries in Australia).
The other thought is that his siblings came with him... or sponsored his arrival.
Either way, there is an arrival that could be him on the GARONE 5 Apr. 1883. The port is not as obvious.... could be Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide. I think Adelaide is likely because he has siblings there already. And I also know the dairy famer Dwyer family who are related to the Condons had some family in SA at the same time.
The 1901 census shows the parents Redmond and Elizabeth are living in Mitchelstown Cork.... so they didn't come to Australia.
It looks like his siblings....
Maria married in South Australia in 1882.
Cecilia married in South Australia in 1881
Jane married in South Australia in 1880
Kate married in Victoria 1891
so Jane is likely to be the first arrival to Australia.... I think its possible Jane and her husband sponsored the arrival of the siblings to SA, then some moved to Victoria.
I noticed some trees have Eliza Condon dying in Australia.... but I think she died in Mitchelstown Cork in 1912.... the Civil Death record seems to support that... and shows her as a widow which was correct because Redmond died in 1908.
I have attached a few records/newspapers etc that may help. Some show Bridget McMahon having family all over Australia too. I will upload some records too

Death record for Redmond in 1908
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1908/05502/4541543.pdf
Death record for Eliza Condon. Notice the daughter Bridget is present at the time of death.... and it shows her surname as O'Brien.... so there should be a marriage of Bridget Condon to an O'Brien between 1901 and 1912. The 1901 census records Bridget as Condon so I assume she is single
