I am searching for the parents of the above and not making progress.Looking for help.
He married Catharine Abbott 23 Aug 1840 at Prestwich St Mary, His occupation a spinner; his father is also Thomas LOMAS, spinner (not specified as dead); one of the witnesses is a 'professional', the other is William ROBERTS; bride and groom both made their mark. In 1841 working in a cotton factory, living at Back Lea St (London Road) Manchester, aged 20 years not born Lancashire. Hannah Lomas (50 years) with Mary (25) and Elizabeth (20) living next door. In 1851 a spinner living at 16 Murry St, Manchester, aged 32 years, born Manchester. In 1861 a cotton spinner visiting James and Martha Bennett at High Lea Terrace, Whitle, aged 42 born Lancashire 'Parington'. In 1871 a cotton spinner living in lodgings in Factory St Manchester, aged 52 years born Lancashire (Tottington).
Any helpful suggestion on father or mother is welcome!

1841 next door to Thomas.
Hannah Lomas (50 years) with Mary (25) and Elizabeth (20) living next door.
A John Lomas married Hannah Raynes Manchester 14 Feb 1810 but no record for a son Thomas but there was William, Joseph & John.
Maybe John is the brother of James below……….time will tell.
1851
Thomas Lomas 32 Catherine Lomas 31 James Lomas 10 William Lomas 7 Thomas Lomas ? John Lomas 3
As their eldest son was James, if they followed the English naming Pattern that would likely be the name of the father of Thomas.
Two possible baptisms?
Thomas Lomas 14 Feb 1819 Manchester James Lomas , Eliz? Lomas
Thomas Lomas 18 Apr 1819 Manchester James Lomas , Catharine Lomas
The problem is the 1841 census N against Thomas name is clear and Y for Catherine, however I cannot find a record in Lancashire for Catherine, despite the 1851 census, so maybe the enumerator got it back to front?

I agree, even after looking hard, I've found no baptism for a Thomas son of Thomas in the 1815-1825 timeframe, regardless of location. Baptisms go missing. For the time being, I assume the marriage certificate of Thomas and Catharine, naming the groom's father as Thomas is correct and look for work-arounds. Checking out brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts is probably the way forward.

Have you been able to hunt local non-conformist records?

Knowing the place of birth would help! I've tried Tottington and surrounds (Bury district) but not found offspring of Thomas LOMAS (esp. Thomas). Not tried 'Manchester'.

Maybe related?

The 1841 Census in Manchester Family; Thos Lomas 55 Weaver, Ann Lomas 55 &c are there in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. Irritatingly, the places of birth are always 'Lancashire' but a brother called Lewis LOMAS is with the family in 1851 -in 1841 he is a weaver.

Hi there, I wonder if you’ve made any progress with Thomas Lomas. Him and his wife Catherine were my 3 x great grandparents.
May I ask if you are descended from them?
I’ve been looking for a baptism for a Thomas myself today to no avail.

I am interested in Lomases (and Lomaxes) in the northwest of England, particularly around Chapel-en-le-Frith and Macclesfield.
This Thomas LOMAS is not a direct ancestor of mine.
I haven't made any progress with his origin and parents.
