Title: Photoshop problem
Post by: n4mv3t on Monday 18 May 20 22:14 BST (UK)
G'day all ... I have a problem with my Photoshop7 …
when drawing a rectangle I get the “marching ants”
but the cursor changes from + to a +with a minus sign on the bottom right hand side and gives me 'actions' I don't need ...
I have attached images to explain the problem more clearly
NOTE: I am a post stroke survivor relearning Photoshop again ... hope someone can help

The minus sign indicates that subsequent selections with the marching ants will be subtracted from the first. There are three main ways to use the PS selection marquee - 1. select a rectangle - next go draws a new selection. 2. select a rectangle - next go adds to the first, overlapping it or not. 3. select a rectangle - next go subtracts from the first selection where they overlap. I'm now vague on the exact way you toggle these in PS7 but I suspect you will be able to hold down the mouse on the selection tool to get a choice.

Thanks for reply and explanation David ... understand what you said ...
however my rec marq tool used to be just that with no other functions after drawing the rectangle now it wants to take me places that I don't need so I must have turned on the other functions ... so my question still is how do I turn off the other functions??? ... "Doc"

The tool settings are in the Options bar at the top of the screen - Normal/Add to/Subtract From/Intersect. The M key gives you the Maruqee tool but Shift and Alt will modify its behaviour - don't have a stuck key on your keyboard??
