Hi. I am looking for information on Thomas Bell b 1823. He married Eleanor Crellin who I think had two children from a previous marriage. In the 1861 census his address is listed as Kirk German Cronk Dhoo. Is this an area or settlement? His son William Bell b 1859 Parish German, Isle of Man. He immigrated to New Zealand as a single young man and worked as a carpenter. I believe he worked
with his brother Thomas who had immigrated previously in 1879. William died in Auckland in 1941.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

German, sometimes Kirk German, is a parish.
Roughly based on Peel where the Cathedral is called Kirk German.
Cronk Dhoo is roughly where Bishop's Palace is.

(Cronk = Hill; Dhoo = Black; in Manx Gaelic)

Using www.iMuseum.im I found a baptism for William:
(Received into Church) 29th July 1860, at German
William, son of Thomas Bell (Labourer) and Eleanor (maiden name Crellin)
Abode: Greeba
Manx baptisms almost always show the maiden name of the mother ;D

Family search has the Marriage;
03 Jun 1851 •
German, Isle of Man
Tho BELL, Bachelor, Farmer, Father THO Bell a Farmer
Eleanor KELLY late Crellin, Widow, Father JOHN Crellin a Farmer
-
If I have the correct baptism, then the marriage (to Eleanor Kelly) is wrong?
The baptism shows Eleanor's maiden name as Crellin, not Kelly.
Of course, I may not have the correct baptism - but can't see anything else close?
