I just cannot find any 1871 census information on a certain Thomas Buckley of Bethnal Green (Wife’s Grt Grt Grandad).
1861 census he’s in BG aged 32 born BG with Wife Susan (30) born BG but probably Limehouse.
Susan 10
James?
Mary Ann 3
Anne 2 months
And
1881 aged 53 Coachsmith. Wife Susan 48
William 14
Jane11
Clara 8
Eliza 5
He died in 1896.
There is a Thomas Buckley in Birmingham 1871 as a lodger but occupation Tailor so probably not him. Cannot find any info on the family for that census and it would really help for a major query 30 years later.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mary Ann married John Hogarth 07/09/1874.

John

Tioman, have you found Susan in 1891/1901 &1911 census. Believe she died aged 80 in 1912 Bethnal Green.

Apologies, yes Typo. Yes thanks have Susan’s death. 😀.
-
That’s great thanks. Now trying to find their marriage.
Circa 1851/52 as he is still with parents on 1851 census but 1861 he has a daughter , Susan, 10 years old. Tried several name variations but no luck so far.
Any help gratefully received 😀
Cheers

Think the Lucy bit of name should be LEVY as his son born in 1867 was William John LEVY Buckley mmn Harvey.

Very good, well done. If you fancy one last challenge 😀
See if you can find my 93 year old Mum in Law’s Mother in the 1901 census.
Clara Hogarth born Shoreditch 1887 Father John Hogarth Mother Mary Ann Hogarth nee Buckley.
Got her in the 1891. Her Mum and brother William soon died and her two nearest siblings Elizabeth & Susan went in and out of care. Father John hit on hard times & My Mum in Law says her Mum Clara went into the care of a “well off family” where She felt very uncomfortable. We have no name or address. MIL recounts bumping into this family with her Dad as a small girl before the war in BG and when her Mum found out She was furious. Clara married John Evans in 1909 & MIL was their youngest born 1927.
Any help we would be eternally grateful & may just lay a mystery to rest.
Cheers

I will look and so will others probably for your last challenge. My challenge to you is to name the 12 known children to Thomas and Susan, find 3 deaths and 8 marriages. One of marriages is very obscure.

Children
Susan
Mary Ann
Anne
Elizabeth
William
Jane
Clara
Eliza
So that leaves me 4 short.
Marriages
James m Clara
Mary Ann m John
Anne m Henry Bristol
Elizabeth m Henry Cooper
Jane m Robert White
Clara m James Perkins
Eliza m George Mankelow?
Eliza then m Harry Lampey
That’s 8 marriages...
Haven’t even got started on deaths 😀

That's only 8 marriages which includes the remarriage of Eliza. By the way her divorce papers from George James Mankelow are online. Susan the eldest is there for finding.

I'm responding to the challenge re. number of children to Thomas and Susan via baptisms, births index on GRO, and census but I can only come up with 11 (lots of errors here re. surname, some mistranscription, some clerical errors I suspect, but the following is how it pans out:
1. Susan Elizabeth Buckley b.22/6/1851, bp.20/7/1851 Shoreditch (born 2 months before parents marriage, no birth entry under either surname)
2. James William Buckley b.8/5/1853, bp.15/6/1853 Bethnal Green
3. Thomas John Buckley b.15/5/1855, bp.10/6/1855 Bethnal Green
4. Mary Ann Levy Buckley (bp.as Butley, reg'd as Butler) b.28/8/1858, bp.19/9/1858 Bethnal Green
5. Anne Elizabeth Buckley bp.28/7/1860, bp.187/8/1860 Bethnal Green
6. Elizabeth Buckley b.23/9/1862, bp.16/11/1862 Bethnal Green (baptism as Betsy Elizabeth and surname as Butler)
7. Eliza Buckley b.7/3/1865, bp.26/3/1865 Bethnal Green with surname Lever!! Died 1866.
8. William John Levy Buckley b.31/10/1867, bp.24/11/1867 as William John with surname Levy!
9. Jane Eliza Buckley 1870 - can't find baptism at all but birth reg'd as Levy, Dec.1870, mmn Harvey
10. Clara Buckley b.26/6/1873, bp.13/7/1873 Bethnal Green as Lever, reg'd as Levy!
11. Eliza Buckley b.3/12/1876, bp.24/12/1876 Bethnal Green (can't find birth regn.)
So, johnhood, who is the 12th child please?

Annette7, firstly your findings are great, well researched. They say confession is good for the soul. I made one error, 11 is correct. I had a William John Buckley dq 1864 mmn Harvey but did not look at the reg district-big mistake, please forgive.
With regard to Tioman's challenge about Clara dob 27.4.1886 being found in 1901 is a Real challenge to us all.
Keep safe

Cannot find Clara Hogarth at all in 1901.
Annette

Well done Annette/John. Amazing amount of data you have found.
Yes the Clara in 1901 is a real mystery. Drew a complete blank when I looked 2006/2007.
Both Aunt Annie (Bristow) & Aunt Clara (Perkins) had daughters named Clara ,10 & 8 respectively in 1901. Extremely unlikely but have wondered if either of these two were in fact Nieces and not daughters? As I say unlikely.

Tioman, I too cannot find Clara Hogarth in 1901. You say she had a brother William who died at similar time to her mother. GRO records 9 children to John & Mary Ann but seemingly no William.

Apologies... should be Henry Not William. The Clara mystery continues😀. Thanks for your help & interest. Just writing all my findings up.
