Hi,
I'm looking for the Roche family from Annikissy, Killavullen. Parents Michael and Ellen Lombard (married 1865). Occupation Farmer
They had at least 8 children -
Kate b 1866
Helena b. 1867
Thomas b. 1869
William b. 1871
Jane b. 1872
Elizabeth b. 1875
Margaret b. 1876, married my grand uncle in New York 1911.
John b. 1878.
All of their children were born in Annikissy. However, in the 1901 Census I can't find any of them.
The father Michael died in 1886, but after that I can't find anything of them.
Your help would be really appreciated.
Mary

I'm seeing 'Monanimy' against any of the births I've checked so far, this looks to be the location when Michael died in 1886, likewise this looks to be Michael's residence at the time of his marriage to Ellen in 1865, his father in the civil marriage registration was recorded as Thomas Roche, farmer, and someone of that name is shown in Monanimy Upper in Griffith's Valuation (print date 1851 for the area).

That would be the family. I can't find them on the 1901 Census and I am wondering if anyone knows what happened them.
It is peculiar because they were farmers and as such there would be at least one of the family to carry it on.
However, in this case they appear to have left the area.

Margaret's birth 1876.

When searching you need to look at the townland, then the Parish, then after 1864 look for the Registration District for BDM's
Michael's death 1886

Mallow, is a really lovely town, visited there a few times.
You would have to search to see who the Daughters married, then search the 1901 census.
Then the Sons who they married.
Hope this helps.

Hi Mary,
I can’t thank you and the other contributors of this post enough. Michael and Ellen Roche are my great-great grandparents and I’ve been searching for more information about them for over 30 years, including two trips to Ireland.
I am the great-granddaughter of their youngest born, John (b.1878) and finding information about this family has been very, very difficult. I don’t know what happened, but “Jack” as he was known, didnt like to talk about Ireland. Family lore states that he emigrated to America when he was 15, although I’ve never been able to confirm that with documents. Of the documents I have, that 100% belong to him, I have multiple birth dates and years, no specific location besides Cork, as well as wrong surname spellings, etc. Its as if he didn’t really know the information himself. Combine that with the ubiquity of our surname and it’s been like searching for a needle in a haystack. This thread is beyond thrilling to me!
While I know virtually nothing about his Irish family, I can tell you that Jack said he entered the US via New York, though I have no supporting docs. Jack won a job on the Railroad through a boxing match and spent several years crisscrossing the country, building the railroad. He made a life in International Falls, Minnesota, where the railroad enters Canada. The literal “end of the line.” He met a woman from Fermoy that he hadn't known in Ireland, and they married and had five kids.
There’s so much more to tell. Now that I have the information you provided, along with the links, dates, etc. I will be researching like mad!
Thank you!
Kate
