Hi
Could someone please help decipher the regiment for Alexander Martin.
Many thanks
Maisie

The writing is lovely and neat, but some of the letters/words are not clear possibly due to the copying process.
Is this viewable online anywhere, so we can have a look to see if it is any clearer?
Can you tell us date, place and what document this is from, so we have a context, which might help in interpretation?
See how you go here first, but if no one can solve the puzzle, the experts in the armed forces boards might be able to work this out.
Added: I love your name. My beautiful golden retriever is called Maisie. ;)

Best I can do:
...private Majors Company ^7th [E?]^ N.B.M. [?] Janet Harley...
-
Looks like it was from Scotlands People - Enlargement attached
Looks like 7 Reg N B M
-
That is a lot clearer Kay. :) I agree with 7th Regt
Can you work out what the bit after Janet Farley says?
-
Looks like 7 Reg N B M
I agree, Kay. The interlineation is probably 7th Regt
-
Hopefully this is the later bit

Could the last be - in this parish??

Sorry Horsley, I was fiddling around with superscripts on the iPad (which takes some time), and noticed you had posted while I was fiddling. :)

Looks like parish, and makes sense.
I didn’t even know this was a marriage. :-[ If you need help with the abbreviations you could ask on the armed forces board.

A bit that includes adjoining records

No problem Ruskie.
I agree with your and Kay's subsequent posts.

I think it would have to be militia because it says "Major's Company" and you would not get that in the regualr army.

This site indicates the Ayr & Renfrewshire Militia was known as the 7th Regt of North British Militia
