Can anyone find my Great grand Parents in the 1911 Census. I have plenty of info beforehand and I know they lived until 1918 & 1921 respectively. The family were in the Old Monkland/Coatbridge area and they were both living in Woodlands Row when they died.
They were Henry & Margaret McNeilly nee Donald. ( both born in Ireland). He would have been about 68 and She 55. They may have still had at least their 3 youngest children with them. Thomas born c 1892 & twins Peter & John born 1894.
Really grateful for any help.
Regards
Tioman.

The Scottish 1911 is only available on Scotlands People which is a pay per view website via purchase of credits. The index is free to search
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
I can see a correctly spelt entry on the free index for a Henry McNeilly aged 70 in Anderston
The 1894 births are registered as Maneilly on SP
-
I have found them on the 1911 census.
They are under the name McNeillie, in Coatbridge or Old Monklands, Ref 652/246/13
-
Brilliant.... thank you so much for your help. 😀

I’ve managed to get the low down on all the rest of the family with the exception of Peter. I’ve looked under all manner of various spellings using different resources but can get his marriage to Helen or birth of Son , Allan.
All I have is that he and family emigrated to Canada in 1929 ‘sponsored’ by his bro in Law James Cairns ( married to Sister Elizabeth McNeilly) but returned to Scotland 09/04/1933 to live at 22 Laidlaw St, Tannochside, Uddingston
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
Tioman

Peter Maneilly married Helen Bernard Hall, 1920, Coatbridge or Old Monkland
Allan Hall Maneilly born 1923, Coatbridge or Old Monkland
3 other Maneilly births in Coatbridge between 1923 & 1929 on SP
-
Have you looked for a death for wife Helen or son Alan
-
Helen Bernard McNeilly died Bothwell 1963 aged 62 - see Scotlands People
-
Allan died 1982, Dalmellington
-
1969 Peter Maneilly aged 74. Motherwell & Wishaw
-
Excellent, thanks you so much. Quite possibly the only variation of our name I had not tried. I’ll have a peek at the other “Maneilly” births on SP.😀

Probably all three births are ‘McNeilly’s’. Definitely Patrick McGhee as Peter’ twin John married a Bridget McGhee and there are several ‘Margaret Donald’ McNeilly girls throughout this generation as John, Peter etc Mother’s Maiden name was just that. Unfortunately unable to view the certificates.🙁
Again thanks for your help. I’ll probably being asking for some help with the ‘Logan’ side of my family in due course😂
-
Patrick died in 1928, age 1. Coatbridge
-
There was a Henry McNeilly died, age 65, 1975 in Coatbridge, MMN Logan.
Patrick McNeilly married Ellen Logan, 1909, Milton
-
Patrick & Ellen were my Grandma & Grandad and Harry my Uncle.
-
Have you researched Ellen yet?
-
Yes I’ve gone way back to her great grandparents on her Maternal Line. Milligans & Kennedys - Ireland and Newfoundland. Only back as far a her Dad on Paternal side. I’ve got a pretty good package on all of those. Not much though on Ellen’s siblings. Got all the Names, DOB’s & Census up to 1901. It’s those siblings I’m most interested in.

You would be welcome to have a bash at her siblings should you be so inclined.... I’ll give you the details if you wish

Where was she born? I found an Ellen Logan in Edinburgh.
-
Ellen Logan was born Glasgow 24/01/1894.
Daughter of David Logan born Ireland 1831-28/11/1931 & Margaret Eleanor Milligan born St Johns, Newfoundland 1850 (baptism 24/03/1850). Died 17/11/1922
Ellen’s siblings
Michael Logan born Antrim, Ireland 05/05/1876
Elizabeth Logan born Glasgow 1879
David Logan born Glasgow 1881
John Logan born 1883
William Logan born Glasgow 1890 (Living at 220 Stonyhurst Rd, Glasgow on 28/11/1931 as he was the names informant on his Father’s death certificate).
1891 census they are at 36, Russell St , Glasgow.
1922 they are living at St Johns Street Glasgow when Ellen’ Mother dies.
Good luck 😀
-
Ellen would have been 15 in 1909 when she married Patrick if 1894 is her birth.
The 1911 census has them in Coatbridge with both age 27 putting her birth as 1884 or have I got it wrong?
-
Apologies... typo.... 1884.
-
She was born Eleanor Louisa Logan, 1884, Blytheswood, Glasgow
Ellenor in 1891 census & Ellen when she married.
Explains why I had difficulty finding her.

Yes, well done. I have his baptism registration and misread as Antrim instead of Belfast. Having checked several other addresses on this document it is indeed Belfast.
-
The family are on 1881 census for Blytheswood, Ellinor Margaret, 20 & 3 children, Michael, Elizabeth & David. No David Snr. May have been at sea.
No luck with Elizabeth although David was still at home in 1911, age 30 and may have died 1937 in Possilpark.
a John Milligan Logan married Christina Johnston, 1908, Gorbals
a John Milligan Logan, died age 34, 1916, Dennistoun
I have William P Logan marriage to Matilda McPhun, 1910 or 1911, Blytheswood
Also a marriage for William Patrick Logan to Bridget Gilroy, 1943, Maryhill
William Patrick Logan died, age 88, 1977, Glasgow, MMN Milligan

Margaret’s Father Michael & his Wife Helen Louise Kennedy are the Great Grandparents of the Late Spike Milligan & my Great Great Grandparents.
They were married whist he was serving in Newfoundland and had all but one of their kids there including Spike’s Grandad William Patrick Marmaduke Milligan 😀.
If you matched a photo of Spike Milligan, my Grandma Ellen and my Dad you would see the resemblance 😂

Great piece of investigation..... I’m sure Mum & Dad went to his Uncle Patrick’s funeral in 1977 as it was just a year after Ellen (Grandma) died and he got a speeding fine on both occasions.

I think I have gone as far as I can with the Logan's.
I did add more info to the U.S. link #23
Amazing about Spike! What a remarkable character.
Best of luck in the future.
