I am trying to find an Alfred Jones who gives his dob as 1883 and pob Tregynon Montgomeryshire on the 1911 census, where by that time he was married to Emily Lyddon and living in Bridgend Glamorgan
I have searched all the censuses from 1891 onwards but without success I am hoping that somebody might be able to help Thank you
-
What was his occupation in 1911
What details does his marriage give regarding his occupation and his fathers name/occupation. Who were the witnesses
-
Alfred married Emma Lyddon Q2, 1907, Bridgend. That should give a father's name.
-
Thank you for your replies I know I would get this information from his marriage cert but I am doing this for someone else and I am trying to save her the cost of buying a marriage cert at a cost of £24.99 from Ancestry
-
Alfred Jones was a coalminer on the 1911 census
-
Nothing definite that I could find in the Montgomeryshire Baptisms. The only poss was son of an estate agent's clerk and he married after WW1. Maybe non-conformist. I'll see if there's anything there*
* none so far :-\

Just to say that it would be £12 via GRO. Don't sue Ancestry to buy certs:

Thanks for your help It is good to know that there is a cheaper way to get certs other than Ancestry I am Scottish and have been spoiled by being able to get Scottish records so much more cheaply
I am doing this for my nextdoor neighbour and she is quite young so am not sure if she will be prepared even to spend £12.00 but I wiil ask her

The GRO also offers PDF's (£7) for some birth & death registrations, they are however suggesting that we only order certificates that are urgent at the moment. As Ancestry would be ordering them from the GRO on your behalf I doubt they would get them any quicker, they are certainly overpriced :o .

Here they are in 1911 free index
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWXD-XR2
Children born Fountain.
If I have it right, Alfred and Emma Jones seem to be in much the same spot in 1939
39 Register free index has
Alfred Jones born 1882, with Emma Jones (born 1883), and one closed record
living Park Shop Cottages, Penybont R.D., Glamorganshire, Wales.
May or may not help in the search.
-
Hi Thank you I have both of these and with the information they provide it would seem it would be easy to trace Alfred back to his roots but this is proving very difficult
-
Hi
Tregynon was in Newtown registration district
The only birth that fits seems to be
JONES, ALFRED
Mother's Maiden Surname: DAVIES
GRO Reference: 1882 J Quarter in NEWTOWN Volume 11B Page 198
But is it the right one? :-\

A tree has a ref to him being on the 1891 as a grandson. birthplace Criggion
1891 2106/18/4
Bausley, Montgomeryshire
John Jones, 65, Ag Lab, b. Montgomeryshire
Mary, wife, 64, b. Salop, Lopington
Alfred, grdson, 7, ,b Mont, Criggion
Arthur, grdson, 3 or 8, b. -do-
Criggion is in Alberbury parish. I'm just wondering if Tregynon has been written/interpreted wrongly on the 1911and it is meant to be Criggion.
If this is correct, there is a baptism for him in Alberbury:
July 31 1883
Alfred, son of Martha Jones, Criggion. Domestic Servant

Possibility in 1901

On previous page are parents Rees Jones, 48, and Sarah, 56

ADDED - In David Street, Llangeinor, in both 91 and 01.
-
Jon - have you seen the 1891? FS says he was born Llangeinor on that one :-\
(Clicked on wrong ref first!!)
-
Hi
I have seen it.
What struck me was the brother John, because I came across someone like him on an earlier search.
Free index to 1911
John Rees Jones, 33, born Tregynon
Married and living in the Bridgend area (like Alfred)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWX8-K41
-
This is P of birth for the family from the 1891. The sons are down as born Llangeinor
-
I looked at the 1911 early on - that's why I knew it was Emma not Emily (Reply #2)
-
It's a difficult one (especially without the marriage certificate!)
I can't see an Alfred Jones birth in Bridgend in the early 1880s.
-
1881
RG11/5488/84/8
with John (add b. Betws)
-
Oh, well found!
Tregynon is not a big place. So having Rees, Sarah, John there in 1881 does look promising.
John
-
I am extemely happy with what you have both found for me I feel quite confident in having the correct family now and having Alfred's brother settled in the same area seems to me to confirm it
I must get back to using Family Search again it seems most productive
-
This marriage might fit
Q1 1878 Newtown - Rees Jones and Sarah Davies
Add - North Wales BMD has it as a Civil Marriage and in 1877 (so possibly very late December and record info sent to GRO for 1st Q in 1878)
-
Thank you yet again
