A few years ago I obtained valuable data about some of my ancestors from the above site, so I'm disappointed to see it has now been discontinued.
I'm curious, could someone tell me the reason?

Can’t really help with your question but have you seen this book - it may be of some help

Have you tried Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website if it's the same North of the Sands? Cartmel, Ulverston &c.

Claire,
Thank you for link - the whole site is fascinating, but mostly outside my area of interest [and negotiating skills].
The original site I recall had epitaph's from some of the more remote villages, such as Asby, though I don't recall the name of the person who complied it.
Maiden Stone,
Thank you for the suggestion. Will give the site a 'look' as you suggest.

Yes I miss that site too and wonder what became of it.
I got some really good information from it.

You can still access the North of the Sands data via the Wayback Machine.
Here is the surnames list: https://web.archive.org/web/20160629221951/http://northofthesands.org.uk/westmoreland/surnames.html
(which is the archive of http://northofthesands.org.uk/westmoreland/surnames.html)
The links still work.
