Sorry looked at wrong vessel.

Hermes ?
-
How about Hermione. Launched in 1893 and took part in WW1, sold 1921.
-
Tricky.
I also wondered about something along the lines of Hermione, but the ending just doesn't seem right.
Makes me wonder whether it is - as Shaun suggested - Hermes, but written Hermaes. For whatever reason... And with a small squiggle at the end.
HMS Hermes went down in 1914 after being torpedoed. Does that possibly tie in with whatever you are researching, teatom?
Best regards,
Karen
P.S. Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

It is not Hermes because the sailor who compiled those sheets would know how to spell it and there are too many letters.

I have to admit to having no idea what these sheets are or who wrote them.
But whoever wrote it, for someone who knows how to spell the name, he's made a pretty crap job of it if it should indeed be Hermione. ;)

There's an alphabetical list of WWI Royal Navy Ships and here's the G-H webpage:-

The sheet is a sailor's service record and shows which ships he served on, when and what his rank was on each vessel.

To me it seems that some letters overlay others. I think it is Hermes written over the top of something I can't make out.

hey guys thanks for all the ideas really does seem to be a tricky one, the time spent on ship was only from Aug to DEC 1913 i did consider both Hermione and hermes but i too thought that it seemed to fit neither also considered heroine but unsure if that fit either ???

it's Heartsease with a diminutive 't'

I have no idea whether Wiki is correct, but it says that there have been 2 RN ships with the name Heartsease:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Heartsease
Problem is, one was launched in the 17th century and the other in 1940...

I agree. I was wondering whether the scribe started to write Pembroke and then changed it to Hermes.
