John George White died in Grahamston on 17 May 1892 aged 87.
I have seen his death record but cannot find a grave. His wife Amelia, died in June 1884 also nearby in Bolotwa where their son in law was minister at the Mission.
Looking for help to find burial places. Many thanks.

Hi
As well as place of burial looking for any mention in any local directories for the time. If they exist!,
-
Notice of Amelia's death - 13 June 1884.

Good stuff thanks fo Amelia info.
JGW proving more elusive :)
-
Still having no joy trying to find Amelia’s burial place or gravestone.
-
I have to say that my initial guess would be that she is buried at the Mission Station where she died - have you managed to find it's location?
-
Yes. I know where it is but hoping to find cemetery records.
-
Perhaps the Baptist Union of South Africa may have knowledge of the whereabouts of the records for the Mission Station. :-\

-
No joy with that link.
I think the answer lies locally. Anyone know what the local archive or record office is for Bolotwa?
-
I was researching my Wesleyan Missionary ancestor and I had quite a lot of useful information from the School of Oriental and African Studies Library in London.
Or try the Baptist Missionary Society - https://www.bmsworldmission.org/ - they may have knowledge of the whereabouts of burial records etc.
-
Death Register from St. John the Baptist Mission Church of the Province of South Africa, (Anglican), Bolotwa, Cape Province (now Eastern Cape).
This is the record I think. But where is it held?
-
Oops, I misinterpreted "Baptist" :-[ :-[
-
No problem. Trying to locate where the register is held is not easy. Hoping someone with local knowledge of Bolotwa and surrounding area knows where they are held.
-
I have sent a PM to one of the South African members of RC - hopefully you'll get a response here on the thread. :)
-
Great thanks.
-
I've made contact and she will look into things for
me. you.

Hi
I haven't managed to track down a burial site as yet, it is possible that he was buried on the Mission Station.
Rhodes University in Cape Town are the custodians of the Archives for the Methodist Church they can be contacted here:
https://www.ru.ac.za/corylibrary/contactus/
This link explains the collections that they have
https://www.ru.ac.za/corylibrary/collections/methodistchurcharchives/
Hope this helps
-
But I think that he was Anglican.
-
Thank you. Definitely Anglican Church
-
It still might be worth your contacting the Corey Library. "If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer!"
-
Sorry, can I ask your SA friend trying to find out more?
-
3SD will see your reply to this thread, and will I hope respond to you.
I live in England so don't have expert knowledge of SA, although I have visited a few times.
-
Ok thank you. Thanks again to you both for help.
-
My apologies :-[ There was also a Weslyan mission at Bolotwa.
There are a lot of the Anglican records online on FS, but don't seem to find him there. Their records are apparently held in a repository at the William Cullen Library, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. They can be contacted:

Hope this helps.
-
Thank you. I will try it.
-
Got a reply from university in SA. Sadly, no records of burials or graves.
-
You can also try the site www.eggsa.org, they have photos of graves from grave yards all over the country including many farm ones. You may get lucky...
