Hi
I’m looking for any Cherry’s in County Down that done family trees.
I am connected to the Cherry’s of Raffrey, Ballytrim, Ballyalgin County Down. Have you done a DNA TEST ON ancestry???
I’m also stuck on a few of my ancestors, I have always wondered are the Cherry’s of Clough, Ards, Dromore, Lisburn and Raffrey connected???
I would love to compare trees.
Thanks
Andy

Yes I’ve done a DNA test on Ancestry and 23&Me. I’m also on Gedmatch. I recently did some research and I do think there is a Cherry link somewhere. My parents emigrated to the US in 1949. However, I am DNA related to Cherry’s that came over to the US in the late 1600s or early 1700s from what I can tell. Also I’m related to some Cherry line from England that dates around the same time (although my Direct Cherry line in the 1800s are Irish Presbyterians.

Ok that’s great! is your surname Cherry? Because I don’t have many above 20Cm unfortunately. Where in Ireland were your Cherrys from? Yes all of mine are Presbyterian. My 4x great grandad was born 1798 but Im pretty sure his parents/grandparents also lived in the same area due to griffiths valuations.
Thanks
Andy

Andy - yes. My Cherry’s are from Clough, Drumclaw in Down. My
GGGG GF James was born around 1800 and has a number of relatives, several of which I can trace a DNA connection to. I’ve an Ancestry tree bkcherry29 that is public or I can send you an email link to my tree if you aren’t on Ancestry. My best guess now is that the Cherry’s came over to Ireland in the 1600-1700 from England, probably during the Plantation period or before. Mine left Ireland for Scotland in the 1860-1870s.

My Cherry’s are from Clough, Drumclaw in Down.
Do you mean Drumcaw? There is no Drumclaw townland.

This is west of the townland of Clough.

bibliography
The Irish Cherry contents Cherry family; Polk family;Wiseman family
Extent 127p. Page Count 172 Ogden Utah FamilySearch Library; http://www.familysearch.org/Publisher Digital FamilySearch International
Access Level Public you can find it and read it immediately. Author Marjorie [Loomis] Cherry 1968 [d Jan1978] in stencil typied format sends a copy of her book to Edmond Cherry junior 2nd August 1969
the pagination in the book seems muddled to me so trying to be helpful
tp i ,
author letter with footnote by Edmond Cherry Jr ii ,
Edmond Cherry Jr memorandum with 5 points signed by him 20 Dec 1991 note abt Marjorie maiden name unknown m Hugh Ross works in 3 archives iii,
surnames in text indexed iv- xxxv,
bibliography xxxv -i,
place names indexed xxxvi-xl,
abbreviations page xli.
Family History section 1-127.
if you add 41 to 127 the answer I think is 168 pages not 172 as digitally numbered in the text
this starts and continues with sub headings ie
Edward Cherry 1750. that the sub headings continue throughout the book changing from Cherry to other surnamed individuals and returning to Cherry and continuing in same vein to finish at p172 that first sub heading starts with
Thomas Cherry b 1629 England with French traditions goes or is sent in 1666 to Ireland. children
John Cherry Belfast Co Antrim b 1669 Belfast the family emigrates to America the family
children
Edward b Belfast? nd d>may 1751 Augusta and Alice Murray a widow in 1751
children grown up
Aaron Cherry bbb1713 Belfast? nd may have died in the 1756 indian uprising
William Cherry bbb 1715 Belfast? nd made his will 1756
Thomas Cherry b 1715 Belfast? nd made his will 1756 d 1760
the family ie 5 irish born emigrates to America 1737 ie it was brief a 2 generation stay in Ireland unless someone stayed.
unless
the author mentions how she sent her copy of the ‘Roots of the Cherry’ to a relative.
check if not checked check Library of Congress and perhaps Daughters of the Revolution
it is a deeply researched family history.
