Hi
Is anyone here able to work out the surname of this man mentioned in the middle of a 1616 will? His first name is Walter and is described as the testator's kinsman. His surname looks like it ends "ett" but that's only a guess.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi MattD30,
Could it be Bett?

Probably Crowfeet. Looked the name up on Free BMD. Wrong era but a good answer.
Sorry, that search found 3622 matches and the maximum number that can be displayed is 3000. Free BMD.

The surname is probably Ellett, although due to the smudge I can't rule out Elkett.

I agree. Looking at shillinges further along the line, I would also opt for Ellett.

Thanks for those suggestions. I must admit "Ellett" was the first thing I thought it might be but I wasn't certain. At least I have something to work with now.
