Free UK and Ireland records on Ancestry until Monday.

Althea,
Thank you for your post. This will give my 'little grey cells something to think about for the rest of the weekend.'

So that’s why the site was painfully slow yeterday - bank holiday freeloaders!

Best information for Ireland is probably not Ancestry- there are lots of free resources. Here are just a few-
Irish vital (& some church) records-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/church-records/about/what-church-records-are-available-online
R.C. Parish Registers- although Ancestry does have an index with links to the records they index can be very hit or miss-
https://registers.nli.ie/
PRONI (Public Record Office of Northern Ireland)-

My subscription is due for renewal, I might not bother as they seem to have so many free days that I'm subsidising!!

Until the libraries reopen, which could be many weeks, ancestry (worldwide) is totally free on your librarys website by logging in with your library card number and pin.

Not all Libraries have this facility

Just going to say that, Rosie ;)
My library system discontinued it years ago.

Some libraries have temporarily reinstated remote access.
Check the website(s) of your local librar(ies).

I did check my library before posting and they are not giving access to ancestry remotely to their library ticket holders. We can however apply to get access to FindMyPast

I haven't used my Library card for a while and the website would not accept it, I wanted to look at newspapers too.
