Title: Sebastopol Yard
Post by: Dee82 on Thursday 09 April 20 16:05 BST (UK)
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help with a death record that I have.

I have a death record for an ancestor which is registered in Cork, but in the column "date and place of death", it reads "August 24th, 1899. Sebastopol Yard".

Would anyone know if this was a local name for somewhere in Cork and if so, where would it have been?

Thank you

Dee

Can you post a link so that we can all see for ourselves?

Yes, this is a copy of the death record.

Can't find anything about it by googling.

Maybe you could contact local studies/family history at Cork Co Co and ask your question by e-mail (if staff are still there).

Patrick was an army pensioner. Was there accommodation for pensioners, I wonder.
I associate Sebastopol with a battle or similar but when I look it up online it seems to be the Siege of Sevastopol  :-\

Here it says Cork received two cannons after the Sevastopol/Sebastopol.

Thank you for your replies.

It's possible that it was accommodation, as he raised his family on Military Road where the barracks was.

I'll contact the local history library and find out if this is correct. The trophies article is interesting. I wonder if that is associated with the location...

Thank you all for your help with this  :)
