Hi Trista…

I live in Belgium (French south) and you cannot imagine how easy it is to do genealogy.
When I first started to do my wife’s tree, I visited the local Town Hall and about an hour later, I walked out with her official tree going back seven generations.  Free of charge !
This is principally due to the fact everyone over here have ID cards and all family records are available on demand.

Because of it, https://en.geneanet.org/ is free and you can find just about everything on it. (in English)  You can even send emails to members who have trees if you need additional information…, just like Ancestry.
I’m writing a book about the Battle of Waterloo and I needed information recently concerning a Belgian farmer.  Found everything I needed in a couple of minutes !

Kind Regards…, Iain.   ;)
