Title: Great Uncle Tommy
Post by: Ellenmai on Saturday 04 April 20 13:41 BST (UK)
I would be very grateful for a repair of this rather worn photograph, the only one I have of my Great Uncle Tommy. He was a bit of a character, with a heart of gold who liked nothing better than to make you laugh. When he was only just 15 years of age he ran off & joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers with his cousin Llewelyn. They both stated they were a lot older & after months of training it was discovered Llewelyn was underage, so he was discharged & sent home. Tommy on the other hand was sent to France & was engaged in various actions on the Western Front. After 11 months of service he was sent to a new posting & in the same battalion was a soldier who had lived a few houses away from Tommy's parents, so knew him well. Needless to say he was discharged & sent home too. Six months later many of the soldiers Tommy had served with were killed at Mametz Wood in the Battle of Albert, a phase of the Battle of the Somme.
Great Uncle Tommy passed away 1991 aged 91, had it not been for the sharp eyed soldier from his home town it could have been a very different story.

I wasn't sure if you wanted more than a clean-up, but this is easy enough to make black-and-white if that's what you were looking for.   :)

Don't ever underestimate your contribution to this topic japeflakes, I'm sure many people on Rootschat are grateful for your help.
DancNc really like the colour tint you have put on & looks good too in black & white Peter.
Also looks good & very similar to the original colour Pat.
Thank you all very much, I can now get some copies printed & finally put Great Uncle Tommy's photograph on the family tree.
