Title: Parish Register for Tadcaster in Yorkshire (Connell)
Post by: Muddipaws on Saturday 28 March 20 11:34 GMT (UK)
Hi

I have a distant relative John Connell born in Galway in 1875, moved to Allerton Bywater, Nr Castleford and died in 1938.  The death was registered in Tadcaster, and whilst I can see the record on GRO index I am after the actual date not the Quarter.  I went to the Historical Site for Tadcaster the records on there are too early.  Any ideas how I can find the actual date

Welcome to rootschat.

A few suggestions

The death certificate would be the most accurate, you can get a PDF for £7 https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Burial records sometimes have the date of death

Probate index if he left a will or there was an administration

Newspaper obituary

Hi

I have found the Index for the death of John Connell who in the 1911 Census was in Allerton Bywater, Castleford.  He died in the last Quarter of 1938.  I have gone to the Tadcaster Historical Site to see if I can find the actual date which does not have those records.  Where else can I try?

Hi

If you know where he was buried and his grave has a headstone which may show the date, then your only other option is to purchase the death certificate.

Another option, though do be careful, is to search the online trees on Ancestry and see if someone else is researching the same person

As said by rosie99 on your other thread - the only way to verify the date of death is to purchase the death certificate - cheapest option:

Just to add that Tadcaster is in North Yorkshire, not East

Just to add that Tadcaster is in North Yorkshire, not East

It's also in The Ainsty - therefore York ;D

"TADCASTER, a parish in the West Riding of Yorkshire, but containing some places located within the Ainsty of York."

I looked up Tadcaster as he lived in Allerton Bywater and that falls under Tadcaster.  So I looked up the Tadvaster Parish Records.  The year of his death is not under the Tadcaster records they stio at 1937.

Again from GenUKI:

"ALLERTON BYWATER, in the parish of Kippax, Lower-division of Skyrack, liberty of Pontefract; 5 miles NW. of Pontefract, 9 from Leeds and Wakefield. Pop. 329."

But the Civil Parish of Allerton Bywater is in the Registration District of Tadcaster!
