Title: Getting images off Smartphone
Post by: Musicman on Tuesday 24 March 20 15:45 GMT (UK)
Please . . . does anyone know if it’s possible to get photos off a smartphone (Moto 7 Power) onto a PC without having to use the ubiquitous Google way?   ???

thanks
John

Have you tried plugging the USB into the charging slot on the phone and reading it like a hard drive?

if all else fails, email them to yourself, sometimes easier anyway.

I agree. I've tried most of the methods but e-mailing is often the fastest.

PaulineJ gave you the answer.

Plug it into your computer via a USB cable.

See page 149 of the manual for a detailed how to.

PaulineJ gave you the answer.

Plug it into your computer via a USB cable.

That's what I do!
I then open Windows Explorer and navigate to my phone - which shows under External Devices.

If you use a USB cable, Moto phones typically default to 'charging mode', in which case you have to switch to a mode that allows file transfer.

Steps:
1. Connect phone via USB cable
2. Unlock phone
3. Expand phone notifications
4. Click the USB connection notification to access the options
5. Select PTP in the USB options
6. In Windows, open File Explorer and locate your phone (eg moto g(7) power)
7. Browse the phone directories and copy files to PC

The PTP mode only lists media files when browsing on the PC. You can also use the File transfer mode but that will list all directories and files on your phone. Best to stick with PTP.

The attached screenshots show the phone notification and USB options screen. This is from a Moto G7 Plus so should be similar, if not the same, as your phone.

Use the cable that you charge it with and plug it into the pc.   Dowload the photos.
