Title: Dade Parish Registers
Post by: AnneMc on Monday 22 August 05 05:30 BST (UK)
Hello:
I have found my list of Dade Parish Registers. Would anyone like me to list them?   There are quiet a few of them, I could put say 10 at a time in a message.

Yes, please, Anne,

They are the ones for the north of England that tend to have more detail, aren't they?

If so, any listings for Hull would be most welcome, for me!

Thanks,

MarieC

Hi All,

To maybe save Ann a wee bit of time - it is a hugely kind request  ;D

Here's a website that lists them.  180 parishes all in all.  I don't know if your list has more Ann?

Anne - thanks so much for bringing this to our attention. I for one hadn't heard of these registers before.

Heather

Neither had I, Heather, until I came across a record last Friday - see the bottom of the right hand column on this page:

I really couldn't believe my eyes when I read that record in the register - 4 generations listed on one record - I'm still buzzing, and its three days on! :)

Wow Paul!   No wonder you're on a high!

I read about the Dade Registers when I first started my research and whatever it was I read (can't remember now) said that they mostly cover Yorkshire.   I have been waiting four years to find one of my Leeds lot!

Keep buzzing!

Can you tell me if all parish registers in Northumberland between 1798-1812 are Dade registers? If not, is there an lnline list avilable? I followed a link on a previous post but unfortunately it no longer works.

As far as I know, there are no parishes in Northumberland which followed Dade's practices.  Sorry  :(

Most of them are in Yorkshire - 14 in Ainsty, 23 in York, 33 in North Riding,  46 in East Riding and 42 in the West Riding.  Plus a few isolated ones as detailed above.

Several posts in this forum confirm there are Dade registers in Northumberland. That's why I am curious as to whether the Dade system was applied throughout the county or just partially and whether there is a list available. Any help appreciated!

belfordian:  If you google Bishop Barrington registers you will find the Northumberland Archives website with a pdf file listing the parishes.

As I understand it Bishop Barrington did a similar job to Dade for Durham and Northumberland.

Hi Anne, I know your original message about the Dade registers was placed a long time ago but we're really stuck in finding details of the family around 1700-1800.We've tried the websites given in the various messages but none of them seem to work.We are looking for the baptism of William Dade 1761 or his wife Susan Blomfield 1771 both from Suffolk.Do the Dade registers cover Suffolk?Any help would be much appreciated.  Gwendolyn.

Gwendolyn:  As far as I know there are no Dade-type registers for Suffolk, plus I also think that your date of 1741 would be too early, the practice only worked between about 1775 until 1812.  Most of the parishes were in Yorkshire, 158 of them, plus 23 others in Cheshire, Devon, Essex, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire and Surrey.  Bishop Barrington set up a similar system in Durham and Northumberland, but I really don't know of any other set-ups in England.  But others may know better than I  ;D

If you enter the url in the Wayback Machine, http://www.archive.org/web/web.php, it's archived there and will come up, and being all on one page, it's all there.

The 'Wayback Machine' didn't work for me but I did find what appears to be a pretty comprehensive list courtesy of the Pontefract & District Family History Society @ http://www.pontefractfhs.org.uk/Dade_registers.htm

Any more on this guys?

Seems I have to go to these to find out more about my ancestors in Tadcaster and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Cheers.
