Title: Brick wall
Post by: shoshannah on Wednesday 18 March 20 14:49 GMT (UK)
Hello,

I have hit a brick wall! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Fred Taylor born 21st March 1892 living with wife Hilda and son Geoffrey on 1939 census.

On Fred and Hilda’s marriage certificate from 1922, they are living in Worthing. His Father is given as Frederic William Taylor (deceased) and his Fathers profession was a bank accountant.

I cannot find Fred on the 1911 or 1901 census with a Father of this name? I can find Alfreds but unsure how to verify that this is correct. There is a birth in Steyning in 1892 of a Fred Taylor with mother’s name of Potter but I cannot find any marriage record.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks!

what names witness the 1922 marriage?

have you considered purchasing the 1892 birth certificate, to see if it has the correct father.
Otherwise, with such a common surname, it's hopeless

This may eliminate that Fred

ADDED In the same house but separate household are William & Jane Potter, probably Minas parents

Taking a different angle.

He married as Fred in Kent
Son was b Suffolk
He is Fred in 1939 in Sussex
But he died as Frederick in 1971 in Sussex

Would appear his full christian name was Frederick??

However - unless you know otherwise - you can't assume he was born in Sussex

Buy the will.
Buy the birth certificate.

That will give addresses to cross reference

Doesn’t help with the cross referencing but confirms bank

You said that the 1922 marriage cert shows father as deceased - he died 1918
