Title: Stafford burials
Post by: texaustin on Sunday 15 March 20 11:02 GMT (UK)
Hello,

I understand that there are two main cemeteries in Stafford. For many years the one on Eccleshall Road was the main cemetery, but I believe that a new cemetery was opened on Tixall Road in 1964.
Would anyone know if Eccleshall Road burials ceased at that point?
In other words, if a burial took place after 1964, could it have been in either cemetery?
Mike

Have a look at the info from the below website. Hopefully it will clarify matters for you.

From experience of managing a cemetery, even when a cemetery is closed for new burials, that means interments in new graves.  It is usual for re-opening of existing graves to be permitted to allow the later interment of spouses/partners which may happen many years after the original burial. So often there is no specific date after which burials do not occur.
