Title: Scottish Birth in Belfast
Post by: mantharobertson on Saturday 14 March 20 17:06 GMT (UK)
Hi All,

Although researching my tree for years, I know little on Irish research. I have a ancestor born in Belfast (according to her fathers army papers) where her siblings were born in Glasgow. How and where can I find her birth record? She was born 16.09.1909

Thanks

Samantha

A 1909 birth in Belfast should appear at  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp . Free to view.

Her name is Margaret V D Robertson, born to William Douglas Robertson and Janet Ballantyne Gordon. I believe the V to be Violet and the D to be Douglas but its unconfirmed.

Note date and year differ from the army papers and were 29th August 1910, but as you have seen, other details match.

Strangely the date registered is the sixteenth of september so i suppose thats an easy mistake but yes  its a year out and all the other details match.

I have a great aunt and a great uncle born in Ireland in 1908 and 1910. Both were born whilst their father was serving in the British Army. Their mother travelled with her husband to his various postings along with her children.

This is not as unusual as one might think.

fascinating.. thank you. I see the number differs but I suppose she could have been born at another house in the street... maybe a local community midwife type person (not in an official capacity) The 'Gordan' family must factor in.

Also... he is listed as a Seaman. He comes from a long line of seamen/fishermen. I wonder if it was that rather than army service. He was born c1880.

SOLVED IT!!

Just realised the name above on the return list is Jordan... is a error in transcription. When i looked I realised its Samuel and Margaret Gordon who I know to be her relations!

Result!! thanks all
