Hi,
Looking for advice on how to start a search for relatives of my late grandfather estranged from his family upon marriage to my late grandmother. Obvs I know their names and approximate dates and location but that's it. Thanks
-
You could give us the information you know. ;D
Do you have the marriage certificate of your grandparents? It should give his father’s name and occupation. Witnesses may be someone from his family who didn’t disapprove.
Find here https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl. Then order from GRO
If they married before 1939 have you found them on the 1939 register which should give his actual date of birth. Or perhaps you know this birthdate already? In which case can you narrow him down on the GRO index?
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
Go to “order certificates online” and then use the search functions.

Welcome to Rootschat :D
Are you looking to go backwards or forwards from your grandfather? Would you like to share his name and when and whom he married?
If so we can then help you with finding more information.

Hello and welcome to Rootschat :)
If his year of death is after Jun 1969 use the FreeBMD link provided above and this should also give you his date of birth

Their marriage in 1941 is available for 6 credits on Scotland’s people
https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/record-results?search_type=people&dl_cat=statutory&dl_rec=statutory-marriages&surname=Hook&surname_so=exact&forename=David&forename_so=starts&spsurname=Sands&spsurname_so=exact&spforename=Jane&spforename_so=exact&record_type=stat_marriages
This will tell you the names of both sets of parents and their age.

Poster has put : 'Before, he died in Ww2 and is listed in armed forces records.'
is that definitely his death and poster has been given wrong information?
-
This death?
David Hook age 24 in 1944 - 151/AF 232 Service

This would be his birth if above death is correct:
David Hook born in 1920 in Dennistoun 644/4 763
-
David Hook born 1920 Dennistoun is in one tree on Ancestry.
The tree has father as unknown, and mother as Jane McMillan Hook.
Jane subsequently marries William Simpson, who dies, and then James Feeney, with various children.
Added:
This would be her death:
Jane McMillan Feeney, also Hook, also Simpson, dies age 68 in 1966 in Glasgow 644/6 747
Added:
The tree is fairly detailed, owned by someone with surname Simpson, and appears active, so worth making contact?

His birth information will be on scotlandspeople - I posted what was the only one between 1919 and 1921, I think.
