I'm trying to find the date of marriage for James Rennie Doran and his wife Sarah. James was born in Carlisle, 1833-1835. His surname appears to change from Doran to Rennie and then later in life back to Doran. Very intriguing.
As of 1851, he was living with his parents, aged 16 and his name along with his family has changed from Doran to Rennie (1851 Census: Age 16. A James Rennie is living in Newcastle with father John Rennie 37, mother Margaret 39, siblings Martha 13, Mary 11 and John 3.)
As of 1854, No record of a James Doran marrying a Sarah about this time. A child William Rennie is born DecQ 1854.
1857 Son Francis born 1857 is named Francis Doran and is later recorded as Francis Rennie Doran. The family, however, continue to use the surname Rennie.
On later records, James' last name reverts back to Doran.
I am especially keen to know when he married Sarah and what her surname was. Sarah was born 1835 in Carlisle.
Thank you for any help you can provide. Alison

Have you tried searching the GRO index on the link I gave, it is free to search. You may need to register if you have not already done so.

Hi Rosie, I am on the site, however, I hadn't registered. I will give it a try. Thanks Alison

It is well worth registering as it gives MMN when freebmd does not. It also has ages at death for those entries prior to them showing on freebmd.
I was happy to look it up for you I just thought you may not know of it ;D

Hi Rosie,
I registered on the web site you provided, thank you for your help. I was not aware of that site, it is very useful.

It is the best place to order certificates. You can get PDF copies for many of the births/deaths for £7 instead of a paper copy at around £11
