Hello everyone, I'm trying to track down the right parents of William Evans b 1819 knockin, Shropshire.
DNA hints are suggesting his parents as a John Evans and a Mary Skyrme of Pembroke... Mary is born 1791. However, I haven't been able to track down a birth for him to confirm the skyrme name, another few trees are suggesting the mother as a Mary Jones.
I can't trace a wedding for him either but censuses have his wife as 'Elizabeth' I'm related via his daughter, Selina Evans.
I wasn't sure where to post this as it covers two areas, so I thought this the best place on here to post it...
Hope someone can help....

So we can work backwards where and when was Selina born and where do you have the family on census
-
I think Selena's mothers mmn was Jones (birth Jun.1857 Wolverhampton).
Can't pursue now as got to go out.

Thanks Annette ;D
Heading has William Evans/Mary Skyrme, then it is suggested parents are John Evans/Mary Skyrme. :-\

Ive just opened My tree.. ok, for Annettes post as to Selinas mom... no Im not sure who she is, surname wise.. just that she is "Elizabeth"...
Williams birth, seems to vary a bit as to date and place...
1851 shows him as born 1816 in Oswestry, wife "Elizh" (Elizabeth showing as born in Ellesmere)
1861 shows him born 1828 Salatune Shropshire ... selina first shows up here... Elizabeth is now showing as born Bikford / Beckford, shropshire
1871 has william now born Ellesmere, 1814 likewise, Elizabeth born Ellesmere...
Grrr I cant see now where I had him born 1919 in Knockin lol
I also dont know his death year

its ancestrys thru lines that were suggesting Mary Skyrme as being williams possible mother, and a John Evans as his father
-
Its is a dna match that is showing a John Evans and a Mary Skyrme as being williams possible mothers..
that matches dna thingy says
Predicted relationship: 5th–8th Cousin, Shared DNA: 20 cM across 1 segments
-
I wonder if this is his marriage

Ignore that - William Evans married Jane Brown

Just a thought, if people who have also done DNA test that these results are produced from have got their tree wrong then won't they give you wrong leads.

Exactly Rosie, that's why I've been questioning it all :-(

Based on the 1861: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7Z5-G27
EVANS, MARTHA mmn JONES
GRO Reference: 1854 J Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON Volume 06B Page 486
EVANS, SELINA mmn JONES
GRO Reference: 1857 J Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON Volume 06B Page 478
Given the age gap between Charles and Martha, I wonder if there was a previous marriage for Elizabeth, or William. There is a possible Wolverhampton marriage, with a William and Elizabeth on the same page:
Jun 1851 Wolverhampton 17 375
EVANS William
EVANS Elizabeth
1871: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V5TL-VTB
I can’t see son Charles in 1851.

If you were already aware that John Evans & Mary Skyrme did have a son called William who was not born until 1833 and living with the family in 1841 then surely that is sufficient to discount this family as yet another wrongly sourced online tree.
I think you need to purchase the birth certificate for Selina mmn Jones in case it has clues to her mothers possible previous married name.

Could be the family in 1851

EVANS William
EVANS Elizabeth

William Evans married Elizabeth Evans on 20 Apr 1851 at Bilston, St Leonard
His father John Evans
Hers was John Philpott
So looks like this Elizabeth was a widow, but not originally Jones

Haven't yet found a likely William and Ann marriage, but for John and Mary, there is a marriage for a John Evans and a Mary Payne at Sellatyn on 5 Feb 1810. Botp, banns, both signed X, winesses, Thos Jones and what looks like Elizabeth Richardson (X).
Could be where John and Mary came from on the online trees, but instead of looking closer to birth location, they picked a John Evans marrying a Mary on the other side of Wales. Sellatyn was one of the various birthplaces William gives on censuses.

No, to that I was meaning, yes .. i was aware other trees etc, could easilly be wrong, which is why I wanted to check out the Skyrme stuff, so id not be following a false family
-
Thank you so much L;izzie (and all of you).. youve given me plenty of leads there to follow up...
In the meantime btw, Ive heard back from the fella who runs a Skyrme database on that surname, he has checked too and yes I can rule out the Skyrme name completely now :)
