Title: Service records from 1921
Post by: paulalou on Wednesday 04 March 20 12:22 GMT (UK)
Hi all,

My ancestor served in WW1 and was demobilised in 1919 however in 1921 he was called back up again due to 'an emergency' but only for 6 weeks. I have his original pay book which gives his WW1 service numbers and what appears to be a longer digit service number. I've had no luck finding his service records in the WW1 collection, as is to be expected, but I was wondering - do you think it's worth applying via gov.uk to see if they have a copy of his service record due to him being called back up in 1921?

Thanks in advance.

Was he born before 1901? If so you can check if he's on the index lists of records held by the MoD. There are 8 spreadsheets you can download:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/foi-responses-released-by-mod-week-commencing-1-december-2014

Or give his name, regiment and the long service number and we can quickly check for you.

Hi ShaunJ,

Thanks for the link, that's a very useful resource. Unfortunately, even though my ancestor was born before 1901 he doesn't seem to be on the 8 spreadsheets.

The emergency was the Irish separation. Men who had previously served volunteered for a limited engagement. I believe (but not sure) they were paid a bounty. Many never left camp.
