Title: Ballyboghillhow
Post by: mbnixon on Monday 02 March 20 22:50 GMT (UK)
According to The Belfast Newsletter, my 3x Great Grandfather Archibald Hunter married Anne McCarten on 10th August 1839 in Greyabbey, County Down. He is from Whitechurch and she is from Ballyboghillhow.

I have tried to locate Ballyboghillhow but with no success. Can anyone help me locate it.

Thanks

 :) :)

I've corrected the OCR a little:
From the Irish Newspapers on FMPast:

William Hunter, of D(B)allyboghillbow, near Grayabhoy(Greyabbey), clearing his well, which is situated on the summit of one of the highest hills in the Ards, found an eel in good health. He put it into the well shortly after his removal there, upwards of forty years ago.— Banner ...”

Thanks everyone. How strange about the eel. Anyway, William is possibly Archibald's father - so more research to do.

Thanks, so much information. I have used the Ros Davies site before and found it very useful.

One bit of information I am keen to find out concerns The Rev H. Jeffrey and which church he was in charge of in Greyabbey.  He married Archibald Hunter and Anne McCarten on 10th August 1839. If I know the church, I can hopefully ask for a look up on the marriage certificate.

Thanks again

Thanks for the information about the Rev Jeffrey. I asked NIFHS for a lookup in Greyabbey on the marriage of Archibald Hunter and Anne McCarten on 10th August 1839 but they came back saying they could not find any record of the marriage. The fact of the marriage was recorded in the Belfast Newsletter so I'm at a loss to understand why they could not find the marriage record. I would appreciate any thoughts.
