Maria Louisa Newton was b. 17 Apr 1909, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Lancashire. I have the information I need on her parents (Thomas Henry Newton and Harriet Amelia Spain) and as I found Maria in the 1939, all would go well tracing her later years.
She married Cecil E. Todd in 1933 in Worthing district, Sussex. Cecil Edward was b. 6 Jul 1907, E. Preston district, Sussex. I was not able to find him on the 1911 but his mother's maiden name was Neate which led me to his parents' marriage (Frank Foster S. Todd and Emily Neate in 1895, Brentford district and it looks like he had two older brothers registered in Christchurch district.
In 1939 Maria and Cecil are living in Worthing, birthdates given. Cecil died in Islington district, Sep 1975, birthdate given, perfect match to 1939.
I cannot find Maria after 1939, no death to 2007, no remarriage (in case of divorce).
There are 3 registered Cecil E. Todds in England/Wales:
Cecil Ernest 27 Oct 1905 Lewisham, died Hastings, Apr 1988
Cecil Edward (mine) 6 Jul 1907, E. Preston Sussex, died Islington, Sep 1975
Cecil Ernest 24 Oct 1911, mother Margrate, Bristol, d. Mar 1985, Somerset
There are four marriages for Cecil E. Todd, the first to Maria Louisa Newton (1933)
and three others, I believe the one born in Bristol is the likely marriage to Ada M. Jones in Sep 1937 in Bristol.
I found overlapping years listings on the electoral lists for London from 1952-56, my guess is the Cecil E. Todd and Olive M. listed in Streatham in 1952 and 53 were the couple married in Bromley, Kent, in 1949 and seems likely to be the Cecil E. born in 1905 and died in Lewisham. I found no earlier marriage for him.
It remains that my Cecil married Gertrude M. Davis in Hendon district in Dec 1951. They are found them living in Barnet and Hornsey on the 1950's electoral listings.
Cecil's probate listing gives his address as 34 Hornsey Rise, London N19 (1975).
My guess is that my Cecil married Gertrude but I still can't see any sign of Maria.
I have checked the deaths, remarriages, outgoing passenger lists, electoral lists, probate listings. No sign of her!
(Also found no logical children for them, although there is one redacted person with them on the 1939 Register).
Any help appreciated!

The 1939 lists Cecil as a joiner.
I found a minor reference to him violating cycling rules in Worthing in 1939.
Other newspaper references are to Cecil Ernest Todd, one to being an airman during WWII and stealing a bicycle.
There are a couple of references to a Cecil Ernest in Northern Ireland as well.

Thank you, Kloumann, Yes, I did see this one, but she was 70 when she died, much older than my Maria Todd who was born in 1909.

There is a death Maria Todd, 2009, Brighton, from findmy past. You never know......

There’s a chance! Is the age listed (sorry I don’t have access to FindMyPast at home)?

The 2009 death will be too young. The birth year is given as 1942.

Hhmmm, interesting.......
I have found a travel record for a Mrs. M. L. Todd born 17th April 1909, single, occupation cook.
She left on the 23rd October 1956, destination Sydney, Australia
A look at the image reveals that widowed or divorced persons are to be marked as single.
Her address at the time of leaving was Basement Flat, 9A Rosehill Terrace, Brighton, Sussex. She intended to reside permanently in Australia.
The ship was called the S.S. Orion.

That looks good Mckha. Gives a birth year of 1909. If this is the same lady she didn't remarry then. If she had it would have been more difficult to find her.
Would Diana be able to obtain a death certificate? I'm not familiar with the BMD system in Australia.

Neither am I, but there is obviously a 30 year rule on the NSW bdm site, so perhaps not.

Thank you so much, am convinced this is my Maria, coupled with the fact that she had been living in Brighton, not all that far from Worthing where she had been in 1939.
I am now on the hunt for her brothers, who both had common names (Robert and Thomas), good well be that one or both ended up in Australia.
