Title: The Pleck House, Hartlebury
Post by: philheeks on Thursday 16 January 20 11:14 GMT (UK)
Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help me as I'm stuck on when an old house in Hartlebury was built & using post ofice directories I've narrowed this down to after 1911 & before 1916 but would love to know the exact date & thank all who read this in advance

All the very best

Phil

Hi
You might enquire here; https://www.hartleburyhistory.com/index.html
or alternatively a letter to the current residents might get you an answer.
Interestingly Gmaps shows the road as Quarry Bank yet this picture from Streetview has a road sign saying Waresley Rd.

Might it be worth sending a letter to the  current owners? They may have deeds etc. include a SAE and your email address is case that is their preferred way to communicate.

In fact, if I found the correct place, it looks to be a B&B - so you could try emailing them.

Providing some details about your reason for the enquiry might encourage a response.

Good luck.   :)

Thanks a lot Stinton & Ruskie

Firstly The Pleck House was sold to a property developer some time ago so there are no current owners to contact & secondly yes the Pleck is in Quarry Bank & Waresley Rd is at the top of the bank but the reason I put Quarry Lane down was because that is the address given in an old street directory so I thought Id better put that down in case Quarry Bank was known as Quarry Lane some time ago but I have my doubt about that also The Pleck was never a bed & breakfast or hotel even though its plenty big enough.

Thank you both for trying to help me & I must get in touch with the history society as they owe me a favour for getting some pictures of an old Court in the village some years ago & that is the only photographic evidence there is of the place.

All the very best

Doesn't sound promising if the property was sold to a developer.  :'(

I think I must've found the wrong place (off now to look for the right one).

Is this it on google maps:

If so, I think I might have got mixed up with Pleck Lodge, which appears to be next door? (which is where I got the B&B idea from):

The planning permission/s which are viewable on line (search for "Pleck House Planning" on your favourite search engine) are for development of housing units instead of sheds and workshops in the grounds, rather than redevelopment of the main house.

Hi Ruskie

that's where the pleck is but I cant get Google maps to play the game & rotate to show the house & I know its there as I walked past it on the 20th JAN this year.

Thanks a lot for your trouble.

In case you wonder why I want help with this topic as I use to be a local when I was about 9 years old but that's a hell of a time ago & I just get to spend 3 holidays a year in the village where the Pleck House was originally built so I know a bit about it but the years it was built is a gaap in my knowledge about it which I would like to remedy.

Hi Stinton

The Pleck House is still standing & houses have been built in its grounds(well part of its grounds) & I would love to find out when the Pleck was built as that's a gap in my knowledge about it - one of my Aunts was in service there & that's my only link with it that I know about :)

All the very best

Hi
This is the best view available on Streetview (I have zoomed it).
In some places the camera car has made a number of passes over the years and it is possible to get different photos, but there has apparently only been one pass along Quarry Bank, if it had been during the winter the view would have been clearer.

Hi There

Yes that's the pleck all right & it would be a better view if they cut that tree down LOL.

Thanks for going to so much trouble but I think Im going to have a job finding out when it was built & I know the place was built from the proceeds of the sale of one picture I wish I owned that picture as it would set me up for life LOL.

All the very best

That sounds interesting Phil.

What was the picture and who painted it? Was it someone we might have heard of? :)

Google books has this entry under Hartlebury
The Pleck, 1912 probably by E. P. Warren, is Neo- Georgian. Large roughcast, hipped roof  of green Cumberland slate

Hi
If it was by E P Warren, he had some well known buildings in his portfolio.

Hi There

Thank you all for the info & I must look into E. P. Warren as that sounds very promising indeed.

As for knowing what the painting was I don't have a clue but it must have been a valuable one at the time.

Hi there, I've been googling where I live while on covid-19 lockdown, and found this site and your pages.  I believe Pleck House is for sale on Rightmove at the moment for offers over 900k https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-89173961.html  They built two large detached houses to one side of the main house a couple of years ago.  The estate agents notes have it as being built in 1912.

Hope this is still of interest.  I have a picture for you too, from another of your threads.  I'll pop over there now!
