Title: Look up please - Durant (or Durrant)
Post by: FBD on Saturday 20 August 05 15:16 BST (UK)
G'day!

I'm looking for a JOHN HENRY DURANT (or DURRANT).
Born abt 1819 - Norfolk England

I don't have any information on his parents or siblings.

He was tried in March 1837 (for stealing a pair of trousers) and sent to Australia as a convict in October 1837.  Departure Port was Norfolk, Norwich.

I'm trying to find out who his parents were and locate the rest of his family (if any).

Possibly through 1821 or 1831 Census (if they exist)?  Or Birth Registrations.
It's a real stab in the dark at this stage.

Thanks - from Australia :)

Hi,
Probably the newspapers would have reported the case. They may say where he was from.  I may be able to check some old newspapers but it may take a while.

That would be fabulous.  ;D
If it helps, I have been told "he was tried on on 31st March 1837 (and has his age as 18 years).
Ship Name: Moffatt
Departure Port: Norfolk Norwich
Departure Date: 27.10.1837
Arrival Date (Australia): 1.04.1838"

Cheers & Thanks ..
