Title: ThreeDSecure not currently available
Post by: Selina on Friday 03 January 20 19:13 GMT (UK)
I have been trying (yesterday and today) to make a reservation online with Premier Inn.  Filled in all details, debit card, etc., but after clicking 'Pay Now' continually get put back to payment page with message "ThreeDSecure not currently available"

No idea what is causing this or how to successfully complete my booking.

Any advice gratefully received!

Selina

There's not a lot you can do it's either a problem at the Premier Inn side or at the Banks.

You could either try calling Premier Inn and explaining the problem or emailing them.

PS if you bank with any of the banks under the banners of  LLoyds, RBS, NatWest. Halfax or Bank of scotland they had well publicised IT problems over the New Year

Thanks for reply Falkyrn.

I will ring Premier Inn tomorrow and see what they say.

Premier Inn didn't seem to have encountered the problem before and suggested it might be that the browser was not secure enough.

I was using Firefox and also had ISP's banking protection on.

Anyway completed the booking by 'phone in the end!

Glad you got it sorted but I suspect that on this occasion the Premier Inns spokesperson didn't know what they were talking about. 3DSecure is an additional layer of security installed by banks to make online purchases safer. A breakdown at that level can generally be traced back to a problem between the banks and the sellers systems not your local browser. Firefox, Chrome & even Edge in their latest incarnations are perfectly secure At the time you first encountered the problem several banks were reported to be having a series of New Year hangovers regarding their IT systems - I suspect that is where the problem lay.

Possibly connected with the switch from 3D Secure to two factor authentication.

Now to make a payment I have to put the phone on the bedroom windowsill to get a signal for the authentication text.

Thanks for responses Falkyn and Chilternbirder.

Whatever the problem was, and I think it was down to the bank, all is OK now.  I successfully made another reservation online yesterday, verified by Clicksafe.
